I know I'm many years too late here, but I only just found out John had passed. John and I grew up together in Burlington, VT. We lived maybe 4 houses apart on Brookes Ave. I spent many happy hours in John's home, fooling with him and Stephen. Once when we were maybe 13 to 14 we rode our bikes from Burlington to St. Albans, so I could visit a girl I'd met at summer camp. John volunteered to ride with me. I'll miss knowing he no longer walking the earth. A truly good person and a dear friend.

I remember Johnny coming with some of my friends to help someone move and they hadn't prepared at all. So he just started an assembly line and moved her. He was a natural-born leader. He'd get games going at Red Rocks. He always was the first in the family to come visit when I moved somewhere. When I moved to Barre, VT, I put all my books in a huge box, which he and a friend had to carry up these stairs. He was so mad. He said - you never do that with books! The box was as heavy as a refrigerator. Then when I moved to East Calais, we went exploring in my new car playing Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA", and we were on a washed-out road that we weren't sure if it was a road or river bed until we saw a 25 mile per hour speed limit sign. We both laughed, because we could barely go 5MPH. He was a great brother. I miss him a lot. But I can hear him in my head - "Get over it!"

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Johnny was my best freind growing up in Burlington. We did everything together from sleep overs, cub scouts, hiking with Dr Twitchel, to just having fun in elementary shool. I tried often to find him out here in Oh, but I guess I did not look hard enough, I wish we could have caught up.

You can not imagine how much all your kind words have helped. John missed his friends in Ohio so much. Thank you for letting us hear your memories of him. And from the Taft/BHS friends - it was so comforting to know that he was remembered by you. We thank all of you so much.

Stephen, Nancy, Tommy and Mrs. Twitchell:
My condolences to you on the loss of Johnny. I last saw John at a BHS reunion where all the Taft School "kids" pushed tables together and enjoyed each others' company. Johnny was ... Johnny... aware of everyone and everything about him, making an occasional dry observation which elicited laughter from the rest of us. His thin veneer of detachment never really hid his deeply rooted generosity, loyalty to his friends and family and dare I say it, underlying quiet optimism. My sympathy to you all and to his family in Ohio

Dear Mrs. Twitchell - John was so dear to me while we lived in WI. The first Christmas we were in WI, John spent Christmas day with me, Dave, and my Dad. After Dave died, John was so kind and sweet to me. I thank God for him. Yes, John was rough around the edges, but he had a beautiful, loving heart. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

TWITCHELL FAMILY, SORRY TO HEAR FO JOHN,S PASSING. JOHN AND I WORKED TOGETHER IN THE BKKP DEPT AT BOV WHEN HE WAS MANAGER. JOHN HAD A GOOD SENSE OF HUMOR AND WAS A GREAT PERSON. HE ALWAYS PUT HIS PEN IN HIS SHIRT POCKET WHICH WAS PINK THAT DAY, AND THE PEN LEAKED ALL OVER HIS SHIRT, I HAD JOHN GIVE ME HIS SHIRT AND I SPRAYED HAIR SPRAY ON IT AND THE INK WAS GONE, TO SAY THE LEAST JOHN GOT A CHUCKLE OUT OF THAT AND HIS SHIRT WAS WEARABLE AGAIN. MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HANDS. RUTH LITTLE HUNTINGTON,VT

I am one of John's many friends in Clevleland--actually Bainbridge-where John lived during the past 2 years. He was a great friend, his dry sense of humor, and determined "Vermont" attitude-was always a breath of fresh air, after a a work day, with a beer (or 2) at Cowboy's-our local watering hole. Coming from not too far (Troy NY)-we shared a similar page of "BACK EAST)-- a dear guy, who I will sincerely miss. My sincerest sympathy to all his family, especially his Mother, who he respected & loved so very much.--Jim Griffis

To John's Family: I was saddened and shocked to read of John's passing today. I remember John as being one who brought an infectious happiness to whoever was around, be it friends or strangers. I also remember the laughter following jokes he would tell, or comments he would add to whatever was being discussed. He had a great sense of humor. I hope the memory of John's laughter helps fill the void left by his untimely passing. My sincere condolences.

Peggy, Steve, Tom, Nancy and families of John: We can't know why sad things happen……we can only know that nothing beautiful in this world is ever really lost because all precious things live on in our memories forever and in our hearts for a lifetime. I know these are only words, but I hope you find some comfort in them. With Sincerest Condolences. Anna
