JOSHUA PALLOTTA Obituary

JOSHUA R. PALLOTTA - COLCHESTER - On Sept. 23, 2014, Joshua Rodney Pallotta, 25, of Colchester, succumbed to his ongoing battle with Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries sustained while proudly serving his country in Afghanistan. Born April 2, 1989 in Burlington, Josh was the beloved son of Gregory and Valerie Pallotta of Colchester. As a young boy, Josh was an avid hockey player. He enjoyed going to UVM hockey games with his Mime and spending time with his grandparents at their summer cottage on Lake Eden. Josh graduated from Colchester High School in 2007, where he played club lacrosse and Varsity Football. During his senior year at Colchester High School, Josh was selected to play in the North-South High School Football Game. After high school, Josh took courses at the Community College of Vermont and subsequently became an agent working for the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) in Burlington. Josh joined the Vermont Army National Guard as a member of ALPHA Company, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry, 86 IBCT (Mountain) and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2009. His bravery earned him The Army Commendation Medal with "V" Device for his valorous achievement during combat operations fighting against an enemy ambush while in Afghanistan. To live in hearts we leave behind is to never die and, thankfully, our cherished Josh will live in the hearts of his family and friends forever. He is survived by his adoring parents, Gregory and Valerie Pallotta of Colchester; his Mime, Jeannette French of Cambridge; his grandparents, Leonard and Jeanne Pallotta of Underhill; his aunts and uncles, Rod and Penni French, Chris French and Jeffrey Trumbower, David French, and Scott and Wendy (Pallotta) Heald; cousin and special friend, Andy French and his wife, Rebecca; as well as cousins, Jessica and Jaison Longway, and Cameron Heald, and Kelsey Heald. Josh was predeceased by his Pepe, Rodney French; and his special childhood furry companion, Ramsey. He also leaves many close childhood friends and his brothers-in-arms from Alpha Company. He has now joined Southy and D in the eternal game of Knock Out. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, from 4 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Rd., Burlington. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Ira Allen Chapel on UVM Campus, Burlington. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph. To send online condolences to the family, please visit www.readyfuneral.com. That bond will continue. God Bless you all. Mark DeLuzio, father of Sgt. Steven DeLuzio.

I lived on the same street as your family. All the neighborhood kids and I (including Josh) would play together when we were younger. After high school Josh and I haven't talked much except for a few exchanges. When I was deployed in 2007 & again in 2008 he messaged me on facebook to ask me how it was. Then again he messaged me when he was deployed to compare stories and ask where I was. My last memory of Josh was going through airport security and Josh was working. He got one of his co-workers and told them that I needed a thorough check (obviously, only joking around). He and I talked for a little while and parted ways. I still remember this incident clearly. It is also my last memory of Josh. He and I were never really close friends, but we were friends and brothers-in-arms. His death has hit me hard. I only wish he knew how much support he had.
My condolences to the Pallotta family. My prayers are with you all.
