PAMELA DEVER Obituary

PAMELA ANN DEVER - WATERBURY - Pamela Ann Dever, 67, of Waterbury, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in the Vermont Respite House following a long illness. Pam was born on Aug. 13, 1945, in Olean, N.Y., the daughter of Dr. John Dever and Patricia Moore Dever. Pam was a graduate of South Burlington High School and graduated from Trinity College in 1967. Following graduation, Pam was employed by Harwood Union High School where she remained a teacher for 37 years. Pam initially taught business skills and transitioned to teaching Jr. High School mathematics for most of her career. Pam also enjoyed several years as coach of the successful Highlander Cheerleaders. In her tenure of teaching, Pam touched many souls and influenced and inspired numerous lives. Pam and her beloved Old English Sheepdogs could constantly be sighted in Waterbury. Her love of sheepdogs was beyond compare. Throughout the years, all friends of Pam knew she was inseparable from her dogs whether it was Maggie, Rosie, Ivy, Blue, or Eefa. Pam's other interests were richly diverse. Pam grew up as an avid golfer at the Burlington Country Club, Blush Hill, and later at Sugarbush where she is a past women's club champion. In later years, Pam fully enjoyed kayaking, particularly on the coast of Maine, enjoying many vacations in a favored cottage in East Boothbay. Pam was also a naturally talented artist. Her friends and family were beneficiaries of her many artistic pursuits from stained glass, basket weaving, watercolor painting, and of course her accomplished knitting expertise. Pam was an avid reader and enjoyed music and performing arts across a wide spectrum. Pam is survived by her brother, Sean Dever, his wife, Corinne, and son, Jack of The Woodlands, Texas; and her sister, Melissa Dever, her husband, Craig Martin, and son, Sullivan Martin of Essex Junction. She also leaves several circles of incredible friends who were constant support to Pam and her family in this last year. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Aug. 10, 2013, at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury. Arrangements are in the care of the Cremation Society of Chittenden County. Hello: I knew Pam from S Burlington High School. She was a friendly person, always, especially to this sister to one of Pam's cohorts, Ginny Moore. I remember the big giant black poodle too.

May her family only rejoice in the wonderful memories of Pam. Pam is in His hands now; may she only know peace forever more.

To the family and friends of Ms. Dever:
I had Ms. Dever as my teacher for four (1978-1982) years and took all the secretarial/business classes she taught. She was my favorite teacher and my inspiration. She expected nothing but the best we could do which made us better students, better employees, and people in the long run. She was always there with a smile, an encouraging word, or if one needed help. I remember my senior year she had one of her secretarial classes over to her house for a cook out - what fun we had! I still have the graduation gift she gave me-that is how much I love Ms. Dever. She will remain in the hearts of many of us.

Family of Ms. Dever,

Ms. Dever was one of the kindest people I knew. She took me under her wing in my senior year to help build my confidence. I also credit her to my almost 26 year career with the state of Vermont. Ms. Dever was one of the teachers who connected me with the Human Resource Manager from the state during our then-annual job fair. Througout my senior year I learned to balance school and working part-time all the while having Ms. Dever in my corner as my biggest chearleader. A quality, now that I have my own child, that is something truly special.

Rest in Peace Ms. Dever.

I'm so sorry to hear of Pam's passing. She was one of my favorite teachers at Harwood. I think I had more classes with her than any other teacher, and I enjoyed all of them. She taught me a lot of skills that I still use today. She was a great coach, too. Sincere condolences to the family.

Family & Friends of Ms. Dever,

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Dever. I was fortunate to have her in High School. I would have never imagined, at that age, how much she would shape the person I am today, but most importantly the lessons she taught me in preparing for "life" as I know it. I hope she knew that her teaching will follow through to eternity, her influence stall never stop. Some of my fondest vivid memories was her uncompromising "you can do it" attitude. I will always remember how she inspired and influenced me and how her sometimes difficult lessons shaped me. Keep her memory close in your hearts, always.

Pam was one of my favorite teachers. I had so much repect for her that it's actually weird to refer to her as Pam. I still felt like saying Miss Dever whenever I ran into her. She was most definitely one of the good ones. Every child in school should get a "Miss Dever".

So sorry for your loss. Ms. Dever was my Business Ed teacher at Harwood. So many of the skills I still use today came from her! Some of the tools we use have changed, but the things she taught us still ring true. She always had a smile on her face and was willing to help. A great teacher!

To the family of Pam Dever,
I am so sorry to hear of Pam's passing. She was my teacher at Harwood Union HS from the late 60's to early 70's. She taught me so much about working in an office, shorthand, typing, etc., that I have been in an office position for over 30 years. She would always ask me if I was still doing shorthand. She was one of my all-time favorite teachers. I will miss her smile. Please know you are in my thoughts.
