Her final days were shared with her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends. Her family's devotion is a testament to her character and the unfailing love she held for them.
Patricia (Pat) was born to Mary Louise (Reilling) and William F. Duggan in Mamaroneck, New York on March 28, 1927. She attended Cathedral High School and married Charles R. Barber of Winooski, Vermont on December 28, 1945. Together they had six daughters. Pat worked as a secretary at University of Vermont in the Physics and Chemistry Departments from 1967 to 1988.
Pat is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Michael Larkin of Burlington, Anne and James D'Avignon of Weybridge, Elizabeth and Philip Brault of Colchester, Debra and Raymond Trahan of Colchester, Maureen Barber of Burlington, and Margaret (Peggy) and Brian McGuire of Milton.
Another proud aspect of her life are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amy and James McDowell, Heidi and Patrick McHugh (Patrick, Thomas, Christopher), Adam Matthews (Hillary, Kathleen, Luke, Logan), Sara and John Frail, Charles and Melanie Root (Caleb, Duggan, Reilling), James (Jay) D'Avignon, Andrea Root and Kevin Mulligan, Leslie D'Avignon and Hieu Nyguen (Tenzin), Laura and Jonathan Olsen (Sabrina, Samuel, Lilah, Jonah), Valerie and Patrick Cortright (Elliana, Anderson), Angela and Joseph Perras (Jack, Hazel), Jennifer and Alwyn Honan (Emily, Jedidiah), Stephen LaChance and Molly Hyde (Hannah), Matthew McGuire and Alex McGuire.
Pat also leaves her siblings Dorothy Quintin, Mary Kidder, Elizabeth and Yates Rousseau, Kathleen and Clifford Dutra, Robert and Sally Duggan, many loving nieces and nephews, as well as her sister-in-law (and friend) Anita Cummings. In addition, her close friend Ruby and so many other friends will miss her greatly.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, her brother William, and her husband Charlie who loved her dearly. Her grandsons Adam Matthews and James D'Avignon, and great-grandson Logan Matthews also left earlier than expected.
Pat, Mom, Grammy (Gram), Great Grammy was above and beyond one of the most genuine of souls. Her tiny frame held the biggest heart. Anyone she met enjoyed her sweet, loving, humorous and sometimes stubborn Irish ways.
Through her 89 years, her heart grew and gave each and every day. Her selfless love, pride in family and overall strength filled those years and have left us proud. We are blessed to have her as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She taught us to fly and now she soars.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Pat's memory to Cathedral Square Corporation for the Grand Way Commons SASH Program, 412 Farrell Street, So. Burlington, VT 05403, or to the Howard Center / Adult Community Support Program, 208 Flynn Avenue, Suite 3J, Burlington, VT 05401.
