Paul L. Valois
PANTON, Vt. -- Paul L. Valois, 57, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 in Hilltop Lakes, TX doing what he loved best, flying his Cessna 210 "Big Mo", named after his late father, Maurice, a World War II pilot.
He was born in Manville, R.I. on December 8, 1951 the son of the late Maurice and Armande (Armstrong) Valois.
He is survived by his wife Judi Fisher of Panton, Vt. and two his daughters; Jennifer Valois of Boston, Mass. and Kelly Valois of Essex Jct., Vt. He is also survived by his stepsons Christopher and wife Jennifer Fisher; Justin and wife Rachelle Fisher, and his sisters Louise Peloquin and her husband Cameron of South Carolina, Rachel Rickson of Rhode Island; seven step grandchildren, and Sylvie Valois the mother of his children, and his brother-in-law; Robert and wife Patricia Keagle. He also has many cherished nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extremely close knit family of Contact Communications employees.
Paul was a born entrepreneur and started his first business in Rhode Island as Lincoln Communications at age 21. Even as a child he was always building and tinkering. While working for the Rhode Island Department of Parks and Recreation, he started assembling 2 way radio systems on his mother's dining room table.
He had the ability and expertise to build any communication system. He built Contact Communications and Answering Service from a start up company 20 years ago into Vermont/New York's leading communication company.
Paul was fluent in both French and English. He loved a challenge, and encouraged everyone to live up to their full potential. Although he was simple and unpretentious, he accomplished a lot. He was a blue jeans sort of guy who was uncomfortable in a suit.
Paul could fix anything and everything. Despite not having a traditional college education, Paul had a brilliant engineers mind, and could figure out anything. His motto was 'where there's a will there's a way', and he didn't take no for an answer
Paul loved children, and was a very loving, supportive and patient father. He raised his daughters to be independent thinkers, and to never be afraid to ask questions. Paul did not believe in short cuts. There was only one way to do things, the "right way".
He loved helping neighbors and friends, no job was too big or to small. He built a tower for the residents of Hilltop Lakes so they could have better cell service, and assisted numerous fire departments and rescue responders throughout Chittenden County. He was well loved and respected by his employees.
Paul was an exceptionally sunny and upbeat person. He had a great love for flying , and for all things Aviation. He died at the top of his game, doing what he loved to do. Paul and Judi were to have been "snowbirds" in the fly-in Community of Hilltop Lakes, TX, where they had a second home. Paul's plane went down on the final approach.
Paul was truly a larger than life man who was an inspiration and Hero to so many.
A Prayer Service will be held to celebrate Paul's life at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30th at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Vergennes. In Paul's memory donations may be sent to the Vergennes Fire Dept., C/O Steven's Hose Company, 828 US Route 7, Vergennes, Vt. 05491, or the Williston Fire & Rescue, 645 Talcott Rd, Williston, Vt. 05495.

My fondest memories of Paul was trying teach him "patois" at the Deck one evening over drinks. He embraced some key words quite quickly and it was hysterical listening to him try to use them. Although I havent seen him in many years, he touched everyone he met in some small way on his many visits to Jamaica, and, will be missed.

To Judi, Jennifer, Kelly, the Valois Family and the Family of Contact Communications; Paul was a dear friend to me and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I first met Paul thru ham radio in 1987. I worked for Paul as his very first employee at Contact in 1989 and have many great memories of starting the company. He had a heart of gold and would always lend a helping hand. He will always remain a dear friend to me even in his sudden passing. Most Sincerely, Brian Justin Forest, VA

He told me about your retirement being so close and he was looking forward to you guys coming to Texas and all of us getting to know each other better. I want you to know you do have a Texas family that loved Paul and were lookiing forward to getting to know you and if you feel the need to come to Hilltop please know you are so welcome for a day or life time. This will be very hard to come to grips with for me. Paul was a great friend, and mentor, along with a great business partner. He certainly had a way of making sure things were going to be just fine. I am very blessed to have met him and shared many fun times. If there were more people like Paul, the world would be a better place. Lord knows he made me a better person for knowing him. My deepest sympathy to his family.
You will be missed for a long time time my friend.

Our deepest sympathies to Judy, Sylvie, Kelly and Jennifer. Paul was a wonderful neighbor (plowed me out a few times when we had a big snowstorm and Chris was out of town!) and we missed talking with him at basketball games after our daughter stopped playing. I always marveled at how he knew so much about the way things worked.
We were very saddened and shocked to hear of his death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and employees.

We heard about Paul's passing from my sister who lives near Paul and Judy in Vermont. What a shock! We had recently spent a lovely evening with Judy and her neighbors. Paul was in Texas at the time. We marveled at the scope of his "command center" and the HUGE batteries in the garage. Our deepest sympathy to Judy and the family.

I found out about Paul's untimely death this morning. I am shocked and saddened. Paul was a good friend - a fellow aviator and radio guy. Even though I only knew him for a few years, I felt like I knew him all my life. We shared business ideas and swapped many technical stories. Paul was one of the most giving persons I have ever met.

I send my condolences to his whole family during this difficult time. Words can't express how sad I am that Paul is no longer with us. May he rest in peace.

As a Contact employee, I spoke with Paul on a few occasions. I came to the conclusion that he had worked very hard for his own success. I also realize that he loved life and his planes. My lasting impression was a conversation between Kelly, himself and I. Subject - Suze Orman, not the normal teen to Dad conversation. Working with Kelly is a pleasure. She is a hard worker and has my upmost respect. As the saying goes, the apple does not fall far from the tree. I look forward to watching her success in the years to come. My sincere condolences to all.
