RENE BONNETTE Obituary

RENE BONNETTE LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Rene Bonnette, 88, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2010. Rene was born November 10, 1921 in Burlington, Vt. He was the son of Joseph and Albertha Bonnette. He attended Nazareth Grammar School (St. Joseph's) and Cathedral High School (Rice Memorial) graduating in 1940. Rene answered the call of his country, along with other members of the "greatest generation," and served honorably in the United States Navy for 3.5 years during World War II. Discharged in Dec. 1945, Rene took advantage of the GI Bill to become the first member of his family to graduate from college. Rene received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Vermont in 1950. Prior to graduation, Rene married the love of his life, Marie Janice Fabricco, on Aug. 29, 1949 and remained committed to Marie and his growing family, celebrating his 60th anniversary on Aug. 29, 2009. Rene began his employment with General Electric in 1950 at the GE Lakeside plant in Burlington, Vt. working there as an engineer for 32 years until retiring in 1984. In 1995, Rene and Marie relocated to the sunnier climate of Las Vegas, Nev., where they enjoyed an active life in their new community. Throughout the years, Rene enjoyed a variety of activities ranging from sailing to golf, music, computers, following the stock market and trips to the casinos. The thing Rene enjoyed more than anything else, however, was spending time with his family. Whether at an annual family camping trip or an extended family gathering, he always felt most comfortable among the family he loved so much. His guidance and affection will be sorely missed. Rene is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie, two sons, Michael of Las Vegas and Thomas and his wife Leslie of Shelburne, three daughters, Mary Louise Pittman and husband David of Spring Texas, Diana Deller of Naugatuck, Conn., and Monica Eversole of Cypress, Texas. He also leaves his brother Paul and wife Blanche of Burlington, his sister Marjorie and husband Bruno of Colchester, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his eldest son Peter in 2003. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010 in Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas, Nev. 89128.

Dear Mrs.Bonnette, Diana, Monica, Tom, Mary, and Michael:
I heard of your husband/Dad's passing thru a few of Diana's friends here in town, then of course the paper. Growing up in the neighborhood on Russell St. I remember many nights staying at your house, and how welcomed and comfortable you folks made us feel. It amazed me how it didn't matter how chaotic the house was full of everyone's friends, you folks treated us as one your one, thank you for that. The one memory that always amazed me is when you let Monica have the pet skunk, at the time I thought that was the coolest thing going. I hope your memories help lessen the heaviness in your hearts, I will say a prayer for Mr. Bonnette. Take Care.

Aunt Marie and family,
Our prayers are with you all at your time of need. Uncle Rene was a great Uncle with alot of fun memories. Who can say they had a bubble gum contest with their Uncle at his house. How fun was that?!!! I've passed some great stories on to my children. Seeing his picture in the newspaper reminded me just how much he looked like my mother, his sister. He truly will be missed. Ta Uncle Rene!

Dear Mrs. Bonnette, Diana and family,
I thought and thought of something deeply meaningful to adequately express my sympathy. But the reality is, losing someone you dearly love is so difficult. There is really no way I can adequately express how deeply my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
I have very fond memories of Mr. Bonnette, in particular one night that Diana and I were sleeping in a tent out back and Mr. Bonnette was so excited to make us a homemade soda with some new "gadget" he had that made the fizz. He was a very sweet man.
The fact that God has brought Diana back into my life is evidence that God is always watching over us, and I am confident that Mr. Bonnette is finally home in God's warm embrace.

Dear Aunt Marie, Family & Friends,

At this bittersweet moment in time --- when everything is a blur, I'd like to extend a virtual hug to all of you. Touch is sooooo powerful and often has a way of saying what can be difficult to put into words. Down the road, when you least expect it, you can depend on me to keep ya talking about when Uncle Rene did this or that. Stories and pictures will be exchanged as a way to keep celebrating his life............. ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES.

Mrs. Bonnette and family, I am sorry to hear about Mr. Bonnette's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Mr. Bonnette had a big impact on my life and is the reason I had a career in the Military for 34 years. I am grateful for his insightful direction at a time when I had no idea what I wanted to do. Love, Rich Celia

I was a secretary for the engineering unit at GE and helped plan his retirement party. I remember our many conversations about how he and Marie loved Las Vegas and gambling! I am glad he was able to enjoy his retirement years there and hope he was lucky at the table/slot machines! He was always a gentlemen and I am sure he will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Dear Marie & family; I read of Rene's passing with sadness but also with fond remembrance of when I lived at 118 Loomis Street in Burlington, VT (1965 - 1969) and your family lived next door. I still think about the wild ride Rene took me on, his 26' Pearson, one September. It was my first sail. I had never experienced the excitement I felt as it was a blustery day but I was confident in Rene's Captain abilities.

Although my family moved from Loomis Street and we lost touch I have thought about you folks over the years. I now live in Richmond, VT.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
