Roger Marcoux Obituary

ROGER MARCEL MARCOUX SR. HYDE PARK - Roger Marcel Marcoux Sr., 75, died peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2009, in Copley Hospital after a well-fought battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded in his final days by his loving family. Roger was born on April 4, 1934, in Hyde Park, to Adelard Joseph Marcoux and Mary Jane (Fredette) Marcoux, the youngest of nine brothers and four sisters. At the age of eight, he became an altar service at Sunday Mass, beginning what was to become a lifelong devotion of service to St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Roger proudly graduated from Lamoille Central Academy in 1952. In July 1952, Roger enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving stateside during the Korean War. Upon his discharge as Airman 1st Class, he returned to Vermont, and while serving his country four more years in the Reserves, worked on the family farm and at various other local jobs. In 1960, while continuing to work several jobs simultaneously, Roger started his own family and his own farm, sharing that love of farming and working all hours of the day with his young children. Roger loved Hyde Park, and was therefore especially proud to have been able to know and serve the town as Postmaster from 1972-1992. Retiring in 1992, after 26 years of service, Roger continued to find work doing the things he loved - working in the hayfield, cutting wood, driving the flatbed for Marcoux's Wrecker Service, and generally doing anything he could to spend time outside with his sons. Roger married Peg (Roca) Marcoux on June 15, 2002, and just felt very blessed to have this loving woman by his side. He also felt blessed to have raised a family with the mother of his children, Cecile T. Marcoux: Roger Marcoux Jr. wife Siri, Adele and Myles; Claude Marcoux, wife Laurie, Jacques and Chantal; Mimi (Micheline) Marcoux, husband Brent Homes, Kendall, Kody and Kaden; Francois Marcoux, wife Debra, Lucas and Emily. The family lost their dear son and brother Jacques in 1978, and are greatly comforted by knowing father and son are once again reunited. Roger is also survived by his "second" family: brother, best friend and musical partner Rene Marcoux, with whom Roger played and sang music for St. Teresa for over 31 years; Rene's wife Monique, their children Denise, Diane, Pierre, Francine, Gisele and Lisa, their spouses and children. Roger also leaves two brothers, Raymond Marcoux of Hyde Park, and Art Marcoux of Kansas. Calling hours will be at White-Fiess Funeral Home in Morrisville on Sunday, June 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Hyde Park at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: St. Teresa's Organ Fund, c/o Debra Marcoux, 804 Battle Row Road, Hyde Park, VT 05655.

Peg and Family~
I didn't make it down to see my Uncle Roger, arriving in Vermont on Wednesday before he left us. My most recent memory is of Uncle Rog helping my parents (Art and Rae Marcoux) move to Hutchinson, KS. We girls helped Uncle Rog drive the U-Haul....fond memories of a man with the greatest sense of humor. Uncle Roger, I never knew my brother had your middle name--Marcel. I hope you and he are telling jokes to the angels and St. Peter! :-)
Here's my salute to a super man.

Dear Peggy and Family:

My heart is broken for you over the loss of Roger. He was such an interesting and wonderful character! We are all so lucky to have known him. He was just a decent man, all the way round. I know there is nothing that I can do or say to alleviate your pain. Please know that I care deeply and am thinking of you all. I feel confident that he is in a safe and painless place, and that he and Mom are up there telling each other jokes.

Some of the best memories from my childhood are of trips to Vermont to the farm. And I can say VT and your family was high on my grandparents Paul & Anna Corriveau's list as well as my mother's Evangeline.

Our family can't be with you today, but we are there in spirit. God bless, God speed....

To my friends and neighbors of Battle Row road. I have fond and remaining memories of Roger and his family, whom all took me in as part of the family. For that I was and am Blessed, even today , as I think back of my yrs. in Hyde Park. It is sad to have lost a family member, friend, buddy. It is reassuring to know they are going to where we all want to be,at some point. I pray for you all. Ipray for Roger's absence.

I first met Roger when I began working at the Stone grill three years ago. Since then, his brother Rene and him have been my all time favorite regulars. Roger is one of the nicest people I have met, he could always put a smile on my face. I will truly miss him. My sincere condolences go out to the Marcoux family. RIP Roger. You will always have a spot in my heart and a coffee waiting for you.

I first met Roger when I moved to Hyde Park Vermont in 1976 and obtained a PO box.
My memories of him are of kindness, patience, hard working, mixed with a generous portion of appropriate dry humor. Over the years I also got to know three of his sons, Roger, Claude and Francois. The same qualities that I observed in their father, I also found in them.

My sincere condolences to the Marcoux family.
