John Wilson Obituary

John C. "Jack" Wilson, Jr. was born on March 28, 1939, in Bertram, Texas, to John Charles Wilson and Irene Williams. Known affectionately as Jack, a nickname given to him by his older brother. He spent his early childhood in Bertram, often visiting the neighbors or playing at the nearby cotton gin. One family story recalls Jack being caught riding his tricycle down Highway 29 outside the family cafe, thankfully, traffic wasn't anything like it is today.

Following the passing of his father, Jack and his mother moved to Burnet. He formed lifelong friendships in both Bertram and Burnet and always felt deeply rooted in both communities.

Jack met the love of his life, Jamye Roach, at Burnet High School. After seeing her walk out of the band hall, he told his friends, "I'm going to marry that girl someday." He didn't think she had noticed him, but Jamye already knew him as "that new boy at school." They married on August 14, 1959, beginning 66 years of life lived fully together raising a family, ranching, traveling, sharing countless adventures. Their trips included skiing with their Burnet "family," fishing and camping across Colorado, hunting with friends, and memorable journeys abroad.

Jack worked for the telephone company in Burnet until his retirement. After retiring, he enjoyed being a full-time rancher and especially treasured his time at the coffee shop with his buddies. Of course, no one missed coffee shop time. He was also a member of Oaks West Church of Christ.

Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jamye Roach Wilson; children Chris Wilson (Ginger) and Julie Wilson Clark (Stuart); grandchildren Cole Wilson (Brigid), Kevin Clark (Kassie), Michael Clark, and Ty Riley (Kamri); and great-grandchildren Callahan Wilson, Kaleb Clark, Finn Wilson (arriving any day), and Rainey Riley (arriving soon). He is also survived by his niece Debbie Watkins (Clayton), nephew Casey Wilson (Sharee) and many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Jean Wilson; and an infant sister.

Visitation will be at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home on November 18, 2026 1-2 p.m. Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Post Mountain Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Hill Country Community Foundation or the Oaks West Church of Christ.

My happy remembrances of Jack started when I was a kid at the annual Roach reunions where "Uncle" Jack (what I called him even though not actually my uncle) and Uncle Jim for years barbecued a goat. I looked forward to the meal every year. Jack was always, and I mean always, greeting me with a generous smile and warm respect. AND, ...........I will never forget that firm handshake. I did not know him closely but he seemed to enjoy life to the fullest. What I most remember is my perception that he loved his precious wife and family with every cell in his body. I can think of no better way to honor the Lord and his Kingdom. Thanks for being a good example for me Uncle Jack. I will miss your warm greetings and crunching handshake.
