Dorothy Wedman Obituary

DOROTHY ELIZABETH WEDMAN Dorothy Elizabeth Wedman, 88, of Leon, KS, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at her home. A Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2025, and the Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, both at St. James Catholic Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta.  Dorothy was born on May 3, 1937, outside of Mount Vernon, Kansas, to the late Helen and Ernest Posch. Born in the family home, Dorothy grew up surrounded by the lessons her parents lived out every day: hard work, kindness, faith, and the immeasurable value of family.  As a teenager, she loved music and dancing. It was dancing that brought fate into her life. At a dance hall in Oklahoma, Anthony Wedman asked her to dance. Three months after the meeting, Anthony proposed. They were married in 1957 in Wellington, KS. In May 2009, she lost the love of her life after 51 years of marriage.  Dorothy and Anthony raised their children in the country - Judy, Tom, Brenda, Bob, Linda, and Darlena - surrounded by land, livestock, hard work, and love. Dorothy faced unthinkable heartbreak with the loss of two of her daughters, Linda Mae and Darlena Kay, both before the age of ten. Despite sorrow, Dorothy continued forward with strength and resilience.  She worked hard all her life, first at the Wichita Airport, then on the family farm, Food Barn, then as a lunch lady at Bluestem Schools, and later as a paraeducator. In 2000, she bought and managed a liquor store, where she worked for over 20 years.  Dorothy's faith was the steady foundation of her life. Faith wasn't something she only practiced; it was something she lived.  Dorothy's greatest pride was her family. She leaves behind her brother, Norbert Posch; sisters, Laverna Wedman and Lorene Willis; four children, Judy Morgan (Bob), Tom Wedman (Vicky), Brenda Elmer (Dave), and Bob Wedman; 16 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren.  Dorothy was a ball of fire and a woman of faith, strength, humor, and deep love. She worked hard, gave selflessly, and found joy in simple things-family, food, prayer, and gathering together. She will be dearly missed. But we will always remember her, and her legacy will live on in all of us.  Memorial donations to St. James Catholic Church, 1012 Belmont Avenue, Augusta, KS 67010.
