Owen Maddux

OWEN MADDUX Clarence "Owen" Maddux, 84, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on November 20, 2025. Born on April 11, 1941, in Watonga, Oklahoma, he was the son of Roy A. and Dorothy Elmira (Edsall) Maddux. Owen grew up in Watonga, where he graduated from Watonga High School before attending Oklahoma State University. He earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering. On December 29, 1962, Owen was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie Carroll Ensminger, in Watonga. Together, they built a beautiful family and shared 62 years of devotion, partnership, and adventure. Owen dedicated his professional life to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service, working as a construction and project engineer for the watershed department in Eastern Kansas. His efforts in flood prevention and land stewardship left a positive and lasting impact on communities across the region. A man of many passions, Owen was a true vintage car enthusiast. He proudly owned two 1926 Model Ts and a 1930 Model A, and he loved participating in parades as a member of the Bluestem Vintage Auto Car Club. His appreciation for older country music, tractors, RV traveling, family reunions, genealogy, and carpentry reflected a life lived with curiosity, craftsmanship, and heart. And no gathering was complete without his favorite indulgencecherry or peach cobbler topped with ice cream and homemade cookies. Above all, Owen's greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, finding fulfillment in their achievements, laughter, and love. Owen is survived by his wife, Marjorie; daughter, Tracey Zieman; sons, Tony (Kelly) Maddux and Mark (Anita Sullivan) Maddux; grandchildren, Jacob, Ava, Ella, and Sophia Maddux; brothers, Larry (Judy) Maddux and Vernon (Sheryl) Maddux; sister, Joyce (Greg) Rogers; and many treasured nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wayne Maddux and Don Maddux. Visitation will take place at Carlson Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:00 AM on Monday, December 1, 2025. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM, with burial at Economy Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
