Shari Scribner Obituary
SHARI DIANE SCRIBNER
Shari Diane Scribner passed on to her heavenly home on November 18, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Shari was born in El Dorado, Kansas, on June 30, 1972, to John and Mickie (Hayes) Scribner. She was the fourth of ten children and was proud of being the only redhead. Â Shari was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Flinthills High School and participated in many activities, including being the first girl on the baseball team.
Shari demonstrated an interest in history throughout her life. Â She earned an associate's degree from Butler Community College and later entered the Honors College at Pittsburg State University, where she received a bachelor's degree in history in 1994. Â
After graduation, she worked for several years in the library at Pittsburg State, then transferred to Emporia State University, where she worked as an assistant archivist and later, archivist, for over 20 years. Â During her tenure at Emporia State, she also earned her master's degree in library science and taught courses as an adjunct professor. Â She took great pride in teaching others about the history of Emporia and Emporia State University, where she developed strong relationships.
Shari had a heart for service to others and never missed an opportunity to help those in need. Â She was actively involved in many civic organizations in Emporia, including the Kiwanis Club and the William Allen White Community Partnership, and she served as the advisor to the student chapter of Circle K International at Emporia State University. Â Shari was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in the Emporia Ward.Â
Shari's true loves of her life were her many nieces and nephews. Â She loved being an aunt and established an Awesome Adventure Club, a Cookie Club, and a Candy Club, which were a great source of joy to both Shari and the kids. Â She often brought them along to help with the annual Kiwanis pancake feed and other activities.
Shari was first diagnosed with cancer in 2012, and through her fight, she demonstrated courage and class. She was known to say she hoped her fight would help others. Â Shari has donated her body to the Mayo Clinic for use in scientific education and research, giving even until the very end.
Shari is preceded in death by her mother and grandparents. She is survived by her father, John, and siblings Suzanne, Sara, Sallie (Dan), Stacey, David (Melissa), Doug (Valecia), Shirley (Greg), Daniel (Junilda), and Syndee (Wendy). She was also a proud aunt to 12 nieces and nephews, Braden, Sadie (Jakob), Laura, Addi, Emily, Alex, Sterling, Talon, Jake, Benni, Ty, and Kinzee (Matt).
A celebration of Shari's life is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the El Dorado Senior Center.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Kiwanis Club in Emporia or the Susan B. Allen Cancer Center in El Dorado. Online condolences may be made at www.charterfunerals.com.
