Anthony E. Nicastro
Anthony E. "Tony" Nicastro, 52, of the Chambersburg area of Franklin County died at 9:54 p.m. Monday at the Chambersburg Hospital. He was a former resident of the Greencastle area of Franklin County.
Born Dec. 22, 1952, in Pawtucket, R.I., he was the son of the late Amedeo "Tom" and Thelma Westwood Nicastro.
He spent his early life in Pawtucket, where he graduated of Tolman High School in 1971. He later graduated from Slippery Rock College with a bachelor's degree in education.
Mr. Nicastro was an educator and assistant football coach for Boonsboro High School in Maryland from 1977 to 1979 and was an educator and head football coach for Mercer High School from 1979 to 1981.
He began his career with State Farm Insurance in Pittsburgh as an agent in 1981, became an agency manager in 1987 and an agency field executive in 1995. In 1997, he became an independent contractor agent when he opened an office in Greencastle.
He received the insurance industry's certification as a certified life underwriter and charter financial consultant. While with State Farm, he was a 20-time recipient of the Life Traveler award, a 24-time recipient of the Legion of Honor, an 8-time Convention Qualifier and a 3-time Chairman Circle recipient. He was a member of the Presidents Club in 1984 and 2004, which honors the top 50 multi-line agents nationwide.
He was also honored by the insurance industry as a two-time recipient of the National Sales Achievement Award and a three-time Nation Quality Award; and in 2005, he was a qualifying member of M.D.R.T.
He also was a member of the Exchange Club of Greencastle and enjoyed playing golf and basketball.
Surviving are his wife, Laura A. Mrkacer Nicastro, whom he married Sept. 10, 2005, in Hershey; and they lived at their current residence for one year. Also surviving are a daughter, Kerri Patterson of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Meg and Kate Patterson, both of Pittsburgh; a brother, Frank Nicastro of Block Island, R.I.; two sisters, Judy Ensey and Christine Segalla, both of Pawtucket; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, John Nicastro; and a sister, Nancy Scherlock, preceded him in death.
NICASTRO - A time of remembrance for Anthony E. "Tony" Nicastro, who died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the MILLER-BOWERSOX FUNERAL HOME, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Exchange Club of Greencastle, P.O. Box 464, Greencastle, PA 17225; or the Chambersburg YMCA, 570 E. McKinley St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
