Cesar “Jay” Miranda Obituary

Cesar S. "Jay" Miranda Jr., 60, of Butler, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at UPMC Passavant after a long struggle with diabetes.
Born Aug. 29, 1965, in Manila, the Philippines, he was the son of the late Dr. Cesar P. Miranda Sr. and Melanie Soriano Miranda.
A 1983 graduate of Butler High School, Jay was also a graduate of Duquesne University, where he majored in communications and was a member of the ZBT fraternity.
Although employed as a medical sales representative for various medical supply companies, Jay also applied his communications knowledge and expertise as a loyal, passionate and professional public address announcer for sporting events in the Butler area.
The sports announcing began in 1998 as a volunteer at the Little League fields in Center Township. He moved on to announcing baseball games at the original Pullman Park, and returned when the renovated ballfield reopened in 2009. There he manned the public address microphone for the high school and college games and served as the voice of the Butler BlueSox.
He once told a Butler Eagle reporter, "I like announcing the players' names and want all of them to feel like big-leaguers."
Jay also announced Butler High School football games at Art Bernardi Stadium from 2009 to 2021, and Butler High varsity wrestling matches from 2004 to 2023.
Sadly, it was his struggles with diabetes that had forced him to step down from his work with the Butler Golden Tornado, and in March of this year, his declining health led him to resign as public address announcer at Pullman Park after more than 25 years at the microphone. Despite the medical setbacks, Jay remained positive, insistent and determined to fight.
Jay was a member of All Saints Parish in Butler. He formerly served as president of the Butler Wrestling Boosters and previously was the elementary wrestling coordinator at Butler. In 2023, he was a Butler Football Hometown Hero honoree.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Christina "Tina" Galletta Miranda, whom he married Jan. 12, 1991; four children, Anthony Miranda and his partner, Jason Lopata, of Canonsburg, Pa., Alexander Miranda, of Butler, Angela Miranda and her husband, Josh Dupzyk, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Alexandra Miranda, of Butler; three siblings, Miriam Albert and her husband, Scott, of Boston, Mass., Maricar Beck and her husband, Jim, of Evans City, and Marilou LeVier and her husband, Joe, of Butler.
He is also survived by six nephews, Luka and Mateo Albert, Jake Beck, Nathaniel and Dante Laufer and Ryan LeVier; one niece, Emilee Beck; and two great-nieces, Amelia and Kennedy Laufer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Therese Miranda.
MIRANDA - Friends of Cesar S. "Jay" Miranda Jr., who died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.
