Donald G. "Don" Kennedy, 87, of Butler, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with his loving family by his side.
Born May 21, 1934, in Butler, Don was the son of the late Floyd and Grace (Wise) Kennedy.
Don was a 1952 graduate of Butler High School.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years, and was a member of American Legion Post 117 in Butler.
Don was employed as an electrician for Fuellgraf Electric, IBEW Local 5, until his retirement in 1996.
Don belonged to Christ Community United Methodist Church in Butler, where he was a member of the chancel choir, served on the property committee and helped to serve at the community dinners. His biggest passion was the mission work team at church, which helped people repair their homes after a natural disaster.
Don enjoyed traveling, and, along with his wife, visited all 50 states, all of the Canadian provinces, and all seven continents, along with many cruises. He was an avid dancer, and could be seen dancing every Wednesday evening at the Lyndora American Legion. Don also enjoyed boating and was a member of the Butler Boat Club for more than 40 years.
Don is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Wogan) Kennedy, whom he married on Nov. 10, 1956.
He also is survived by his three children, one daughter, Karen Link and her husband, Lloyd, of Butler, and two sons, Gordon Kennedy of Butler, and Brian Kennedy and his wife, Kimberly, of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Angela (Cory) Elder, Alyson (Evan) Beilstein, Lee (Marina) Link, Kara Kennedy, Brittni Krill, and Katie, Morgan and Alex Kennedy; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Hively and Martha (Sam) Bowser, both of
Columbia City, Ind.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard D. Kennedy.
KENNEDY - All are welcome to join the family of Donald G. "Don" Kennedy, who died Sunday, March 27, 2022, for a visitation to be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.
A funeral service along with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Anette V. Gerber of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating.
