Earl Mowery Obituary

Earl S. Mowery Jr., 94, of Cabot, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, from double pneumonia.
He was born July 29, 1931, in Tarentum. He was the son of the late Earl S. Mowery Sr. and Jennie H. (Jones) Mowery, of Saxonburg.
A graduate of Butler High School, he was active in varsity football, American Legion Baseball and the Saxonburg Fireman's Softball Team. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy. In 1966, he was the founder and coach of Saxonburg's first youth football team, the Red Devils. In addition, Earl was an active member with the Saxonburg volunteer firemen.
Earl was a precision tool and die maker, retiring from Penn United Technology. In retirement, he enjoyed teaching golf and working part-time at Saxony Golf Course. He was an exceptional golfer with a talent for long drives. He and his son, Corky, won the Butler Country Club's "Father and Son" championship twice.
He was an active Boy Scout leader, and he enjoyed motorcycles, playing guitar, square dancing with Nancy and sudoku. Earl was always practicing his game of pool shooting, achieving a competitive game of trick shots. He and Nancy loved to travel in their motor home, touring the USA and wintering in Hilton Head, S.C. Earl's treasure was the time he spent with his family and friends.
Earl built an amazing miniature train display, which was enjoyed year-round by family and friends. His 1970 brand new candy apple red F100 truck was the apple of his eye. It remains in the family and is still running loud and proud. Earl was also a member of Saxonburg Memorial Church and Concordia Chapel. His mission trip to Uganda, Africa, was a work of love for the Lord. Earl really loved his daily Scripture readings.
Earl is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee (Burtner) Mowery, the love of his life, they celebrated 70 long years of marriage on Sept. 1, 2025; his two children, Gwen (William) Pysh, of Miramar Beach, Fla., and Earl "Corky" (Kris) Mowery III, of Butler; his three grandchildren, Stefanie Pysh-Young, of Calgary, Canada, Preston (Demi) Pysh, of Alabama, and Travis Mowery, of Butler; his four great-grandchildren, Noah Copple and Cameron Copple, of Calgary, Canada, along with Tyler Pysh and Claire Pysh, of Alabama; his brother-in-law, James Burtner, of Cabot; his sister-in-law, Jean Burtner Ohl, of Cabot; as well as by his numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Mowery; his sister, Joan Black; as well as by his nephew, Frank Grill.
The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to the Concordia staff, as well as the Butler Memorial Hospital staff, for their loving care.
MOWERY - A celebration of life for Earl S. Mowery Jr., who died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, will be held at Concordia at Cabot at a later date.

Nancy, Gwen and Corky- so very sorry for your loss. I have great memories of Earl, joining us in the garage for basketball. And always enjoyed when he would share something at church- it was always memorable. He will be missed.

Such wonderful memories of all the good times our families had together. The summer and winter fun we had at the lake, watching the trains run in the basement. The only time I ever rode a motorcycle was with Earl, playing bluegrass music down the road. Love to Nancy and the whole family from the Cunningham, Shanor, and Fleeger families. I am sure Marian already has him playing cards.

We knew Earl from the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church. Earl was also a member of the Men's Group from the church who met every Wednesday morning at Kelly's. I would read the daily scripture message and Earl would follow up with an awesome thoughtful prayer. We will miss him dearly.
