Eric Caccamo Obituary

Eric Joseph "Doc" Caccamo, 55, of Oakland, Maine, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born Jan. 25, 1970, in Butler, Eric was the son of Vincent J. Caccamo Sr. and Eleanor Gregory Caccamo. He graduated from Butler High School in 1988 and went on to earn his degree from St. Vincent College in May 1992. His passion for medicine led him to Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 1997.
In the fall of 1999, Eric married Melissa Sue Kelly, and together they built a life filled with love and family. They later moved to Maine, where he established his first medical practice in Fairfield, before relocating it to Waterville, and eventually settling in Oakland in 2004. Known affectionately as "Doc," he was a dedicated physician who took the time to genuinely care for his patients, earning their trust and admiration throughout his career.
Beyond his profession, Eric was a devoted family man who cherished traditions. He had a deep love for cooking and believed in elaborate daily meals which took hours to prepare, resulting in second dinner being served well after 9 p.m.; and always ensuring there was plenty to share. A passionate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, the team's performance often set the tone for his week. When not working or cheering on his team or kids, he found solace at camp, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Eric was predeceased by his father, Vincent J. Caccamo Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Melissa S. Caccamo; their children, Salvatore Vincenzo Caccamo, Francesca Isabella Caccamo, Giovanni Antonia Caccamo and Alexa Angelina Caccamo; his mother, Eleanor A. Caccamo; his sister, Valarie Nold and her husband, David; his brother, Vincent J. Caccamo Jr.; and his nephew, Evan Nold.
Eric's warmth, dedication, and love for his family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those whose lives he touched.
CACCAMO - A Mass of Christian burial for Eric Joseph "Doc" Caccamo, who died Saturday, March 8, 2025, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. John Catholic Church, 26 Monument St., Winslow, Maine.
Arrangements are in the care of BURPEE, CARPENTER & HUTCHINS FUNERAL HOME, Rockland, Maine.

I can't believe it's already been a year. No matter where we go in Central Maine, if it is related to the medical field, the people we talk with knew Doc and they, like us, miss him. I met an older lady in the doctor's office a few weeks and she said, "Now HE was a doctor" - those five little words had such a huge meaning. Doc, you are missed.

My ex husband and I had Eric as our doctor. He was a wonderful man. Always looked forward to seeing him. I myself am a huge of the Pittsburgh steelers!! We always had a blast talking about how they were doing. He was a great doctor and he will be missed. So sorry about his passing. My condolences to the family.

Doc Caccamo and my son , Dr Christopher Enoch , graduated in LECOM´s inaugural class together in 1997.
I remember meeting Eric at the graduation ceremony and have several photos of them together , smiling so proudly.
My son passed away just 2 months ago, February 8, 2025, at age 53, following his battle with cancer.
When I heard about Eric´s passing from another LECOM graduate.. I was in disbelief!
Two young amazing doctors taken too soon from their wonderful families , friends and patients who entrusted them with their lives.
My heart aches for all of you. May you find solice in knowing he no longer suffers. My deepest
sympathy

He was one of the best he took us in when another practice made us feel awful and made us feel at home. He was one of the few doctors willing to work with my daughters kidney disease. He made my son feel safe enough to talk to him about anything. He'll truly be missed. I'm so sorry for his family's loss.

Dr. Caccamo was one of the best doctors, He took us on as our doctor passed away suddenly. My husband was sick and Eric jumped right in and took very good care of him. He then became our family doctor.
We are so sad for the wonderful family and if ever we can help in any way, please just let us know.

I met Doc thru my mom. He had been her doctor for over 20years. He then became mine and I had him for the last 15+ and then got him for my husband. Doc and I shared the same Bday and always made sure to wish each other Happy bday. We used to talk about hunting, his apple trees, gardening. My heart is truly broken. He has been missed for so long. And will now forever be missed. He was an amazing man. He made every patient feel cared for. My heart goes out to his entire family as well as his extended family. R.I.P. Doc. I hope you're at peace now!!!

I was so saddened to learn of Docs passing. The community has lost a wonderful, compassionate, loving doctor way too soon.
I first met Eric when my husband got stationed in Waterville for recruiting Duty in 2005. The care was impeccable.
Upon returning to Maine in 2022, there was no question who my doctor was going to be even though I had to drive to see him.
His passion for cooking and gardening mimic mine and while visiting his office (now Eric to me) we often talked food and showed each other pictures of our gardens. He always had a hug if you needed one.
My deepest sympathies to his family, staff, and all those who loved him.
Cancer sucks. RIP friend

The best most compassionate friendly man I have ever had the pleasure to know. I was heart broken when I could no longer have him as my doc because of insurance. Melissa, him and his office staff made you feel like part of their family. I will miss seeing him in public so much. I'm glad I was able to get that one last hug.
