George “Sam” Brydon Obituary

George Samuel "Sam" Brydon, 90, of Slippery Rock, passed away at Orchard Manor, Grove City, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025.
He was born in Slippery Rock on Sept. 23, 1935, to Harold Ralph Brydon and Olive Pearl Carothers Brydon.
He married Nellie Esther Causer on June 20, 1953. She preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 2013.
Sam was a lifelong member of Slippery Rock United Methodist Church. He attended Jerusalem Christian Church in Greenville, Pa.
Sam went to diesel mechanic school and worked as an equipment operator for C&K Mining and then as a strip mine foreman and landman for Adobe Mining. He was a certified reflexologist in his later years.
He was a reader, an avid card player and an excellent cook. He was a devoted husband and father whose happiest times were spent with his family. He was well known for his kindness and quick wit.
He was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 603 of Grove City.
Survivors include four children, S. Joseph Brydon (Denise), Rebecca S. Coyer (Ronald) and Elizabeth A. Dickey, all of Slippery Rock, and Melissa L. McCloskey (Jerry), of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Rachel Stadler (Paul), Megan Horn (Graham), Thomas Coyer (Amanda), Katie Forse (Tom), Adam Brydon (Jessica), Alex Brydon (Alex), Jacob McCloskey and Cassidy McCloskey; seven great-grandchildren, Lucian, Genevieve, Eilidh, Rowan, Fergus, Kamryn and Sophia Jo.
He was preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Karilyn "Kari" McCloskey; son-in-law, Robert "Mouse" Dickey; brother, John Brydon; and sister, MaryAnn Opitz.
BRYDON - The family of George Samuel "Sam" Brydon, who died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025, will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the funeral home, with son-in-law, Jerry McCloskey, pastor of the Jerusalem Church of Greenville, presiding.
Interment will follow at Slippery Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Ave., New Castle, PA 16101.
