Harry Spencer Obituary

Harry Frederick "Fred" Spencer, 88, of Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away Monday at Trinity Living Center, Grove City, following a one-month illness.
Fred was born on July 14, 1928, in Slippery Rock to Marion Reed Spencer and Joanna Alberta Loomis Spencer.
He married Betty Jean Causer on July 24, 1946. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2016.
Fred graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1946 and was a U.S. Army veteran (1946-1948), serving in occupied Japan as a supply clerk.
He retired from West Penn Power as an electrical engineer technician after 42 years of service. For over 75 years he was a member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees.
Fred previously served his community in the greater Butler County area in many ways, including as a justice of the peace, a magistrate and a constable.
He was a member of F&AM Masonic Lodge of Grove City; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of New Castle; the Harrisville American Legion; Harrisville Deer Hunters Association; and NRA.
He is survived by his special companion, Helen Eshbaugh of Grove City; two daughters, Sandy Riddle (Rodger) of Forestville and Debbie Hedin (Mark) of Philadelphia; son, Fred Spencer (Jocelyn) of Slippery Rock; 11 grandchildren, Mark Bell (Tiffany), Kristina Martin, Jaime Trezona (Aaron), Chris Hedin (Brenna), Mike Hedin (Jackie), Tony Spencer (Sara), Tyler Spencer (Danielle), Rick Spencer (Claressa), Lauren Miller, Dana Herold (Jeff) and Sandy Ashbaugh (Ray); 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Betty Force, Jennie Irene Montgomery and Jean Pontius; and two brothers, Jim and Don Spencer.
SPENCER - Funeral services for Harry Frederick "Fred" Spencer, who died Monday, June 19, 2017, will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Keith McIlwain and the Rev. Jeff Cantor presiding.
Family will receive friends at the Smith Funeral Home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the donor's choice.
