Hazel Weitzel Obituary

Hazel Arlene (Bryan) Weitzel, 71, passed away peacefully Sunday at her home in Coral Springs, Fla., after a long battle with cancer.
Hazel was born Oct. 30, 1943, in Hooker, the daughter of Loyal and Alice Bryan.
Hazel grew up on a farm in Hooker and graduated from Moniteau High School in 1961. She then attended Slippery Rock University, where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and graduated with a degree in education in 1965.
In June 1965, Hazel married her high school sweetheart, Gary Victor Weitzel of West Sunbury. They moved to South Florida in 1966 and have lived in the same home in Coral Springs for more than 40 years.
Hazel was an amazing teacher and coach with an interest in health and fitness. She was an active member the First Church of Coral Springs, where she loved singing with the choir and attending Bible study. Her true passion was raising her three children and later traveling to visit and cherish her five grandchildren.
Hazel always looked for ways to celebrate life and honor others as she treasured holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. She found great joy in giving small gifts to others and sought out ways to make others feel special or appreciated.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Gary Weitzel; her son, Kirby Weitzel and his wife, Jennifer, of Gainesville, Fla.; her daughter, Amy (Weitzel) McGibany and her husband, Christopher, of Tallahassee, Fla.; her daughter, Joy Weitzel of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, Emma and Anna McGibany and Colby, Braden and Emerson Weitzel; her sisters, Gladys Gordon and Linda Morris; her sisters-in-law, Hazel Arnold, Joanne Peedin and Linda Peoples; and a number of other relatives and dear friends.
WEITZEL - There will be a celebration of life service for Hazel Arlene Weitzel, who died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at the First Church of Coral Springs, Fla.
Hazel requested that anyone considering memorial flowers to please instead give flowers to someone else to brighten their day.
The William F. Young Funeral Home, West Sunbury, is assisting with arrangements.

I watched Hazel grow up as we went to school together and neighbored with her family in farming. She was a fine person. It's been a long time Gary since we climbed poles together at People's Telephone. How quickly the years have passed. My deepest sympathy for your great loss to this tragic disease. Bob Niggel

Hazel was my older sister. She was always my role model. She made a difference in everyone's life that she touched especially all the children she taught over 30 years and her three beautiful children. Rest in peace my sweet sweet sister. I will miss you so much .

Mrs. Weitzel was my PE teacher in 6th grade. Kirby was a dear friend. I remember Mrs. Weitzel and her class like it was yesterday and it was 33 years ago. She was a wonderful teacher, role model and mom. She always had a smile on her faces and teased me about clogging up her phone line at night (I'll never forget that). My deepest sympathies to the Weitzal family. Your mom touched the lives of so many young people. I know that for sure because I am an educator now too. She was inspirational.
