Helen Viola Taggart, 102, formerly of Worth Township, Butler County, passed away at Orchard Manor in Grove City on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021.
She was born on July 6, 1919, in Butler, to Jesse Floyd Wolfe and Annie Margaret Elizabeth Beilstein Wolfe.
She married Clair Denniston Taggart on Aug. 18, 1947, and he preceded her in death April 2, 2012.
She was a homemaker, and was a member of the West Liberty Presbyterian Church, where she had served with the Women's Missionary Society of the Church. Following the closing of the church, she later attended Friendship Presbyterian Church.
Helen graduated from Butler High School, and was a former member of the Slippery Rock AARP, Slippery Rock Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange and National Grange.
She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol E. (Michael McCoy) Taggart of Hanover, Pa., Kathleen A. (Andrew) Gildersleeve of Cranberry Township, Connie A. (Robert) Schmitt of Nokomis, Fla.; her son, Dennis C. (Tina) Taggart of Slippery Rock; her sister, Ruth McCoy of Salem, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Lucy Fergus of Slippery Rock; four grandchildren, Tricia Koebler, Corey Taggart, Emily McDermott and Brett Gildersleeve; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Myrtle Sarvey and Florence Yost, and an infant sister.
TAGGART - Due to the pandemic conditions, the family of Helen Viola Taggart, who died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, is holding a private visitation and funeral service Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at Smith Funeral Home in Slippery Rock. The service will be led by the Rev. Diane Whitman.
Interment will be held at West Liberty Cemetery, West Liberty Borough.
Memorial contributions may be given to the West Liberty Cemetery Association, c/o Richard Bosch, Church Road, Slippery Rock, PA 16057, or the American Heart Association.
