Janis Benson Obituary
She was born April 5, 1922, in Butler. Jan was the daughter of the late Walter J. Dreher and Mary B. (Bachman) Dreher.
Jan was a 1941 graduate of Butler High School, and a 1942 graduate of Butler Business College. She then went on to work as a legal secretary for 36 years for Reiber and Reiber and Willis McDonald Attorneys at Law in Butler.
Jan married the love of her life, Joe Benson, on June 27, 1946, in Butler, two weeks after he returned from World War II. They were blessed with 62 years of marriage.
She and her husband enjoyed vacationing at their cottage in Conneaut, Ohio, with family and friends. After retirement, one of the many joys she had with her husband Joe was spending winters in Florida with her Butler friends.
Janis was a member of the Armco Golf Club, the Esquire Club, Century Club and several card clubs. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, dinner dances and knitting. It was a tradition in the family to receive a pair of her knitted slippers for birthdays.
Janis was a lifelong member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Butler.
She was small in stature but mighty in spirit. Jan persevered in March to recover from COVID-19, and was so pleased to celebrate her 100th birthday in April. Janis was the heart of the family. Her strong faith, kindheartedness and genuine love of family will live in our hearts forever.
Surviving is her brother, Clair L. "Tiny" Dreher of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Benson; a brother, Wayne W. Dreher; and two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Dreher and Jean Dreher.
BENSON - Visitation for Janis D. Benson, who died Monday, July 25, 2022, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Rev. David M. Phillips, senior pastor, will officiate.
Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Butler.
Arrangements are under the direction of GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, Butler.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler.
