Jerome Heinz Obituary

Jerome "Jerry" Heinz, 76, of Butler, passed away doing what he loved - his weekly exercise on the Montour Trail - on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.
Born Oct. 3, 1946, in Evanston, Ill., he was the son of the late Wilbur Heinz and Jeanne Kelly Heinz.
A civil engineer by degree, Jerry graduated from the University of Illinois in 1969. He then moved to Pittsburgh where he met his wife, Tina, whom he married on July 25, 1970. He worked for Koppers for 14 years, as both a structural timber engineer and plant manager. He designed many buildings and loved to point them out. His second career was at PNC Bank, where he enjoyed a management position for 23 years, retiring in 2006.
Jerry had many hobbies. He and Tina loved to travel and visited many countries during their years together. Jerry loved woodworking; he crafted a multitude of furniture, including numerous pieces that he gifted to his family and friends. Jerry was a lifelong golfer and had three holes-in-one. His goal was to shoot his age, which he nearly accomplished. Jerry became a runner in midlife and enjoyed competing in races from 5Ks through half marathons; he especially loved running with his daughters and even his granddaughter. Jerry was an avid fisherman, spending a week every summer in Canada fishing for walleye with family and friends. He also loved attending Pirates games as well as Steelers and Pitt football games with his sons-in-law and friends.
Jerry was charismatic; he made others laugh, had a love of life, and enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. A true engineer, he had a curious mind. He was always reading, learning and sharing his knowledge with others. He took a genuine interest in others' hobbies and work and was always willing to come along to activities and events. Above all, Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
Jerry leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Christine "Tina" Heinz; his daughters, Heather (Ed) Roberts and Michelle (Mike) Carnicelli; his granddaughter, Grace Carnicelli; his siblings, Tom (Ann) Heinz, Annette (Larry) Rafferty, Mary Heinz (George Martin), Bill Heinz and John (Sharon) Heinz; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
HEINZ - Friends of Jerome "Jerry" Heinz, who died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
