Joan Wood Obituary
Joan was active her whole life. Even as she aged, it was hard for her not to work outside in the yard planting flowers and tidying up. And she loved her puzzles! There was always a puzzle in some form of progress on her puzzle table. She was an avid bowler until she was 85 and always wanted to beat the "younger" women in her bowling league. She enjoyed watching "Jeopardy!" and British murder mysteries. Joan enjoyed shopping, too, either online or in a store. She loved hosting holiday events, and her potato salad was the best! She also enjoyed one last trip to the beach this year! Above all, Joan was loving and kind.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was very proud of her sons and grandchildren. She was always there for her four sons offering comfort, advice and an ear to listen. She always provided a soft place to land when her sons needed one. She loved her boys and they loved her.
Surviving are her four sons, Samuel (Monica) Wood Jr., of Sarver, Douglas (Kathy) Wood, of Butler, Roger (Wendy) Wood, of West Deer, and Daryl Wood, of West Deer; her seven grandchildren, Allyson (Jamison) Dohn, Harrison, Kevin (Kara), Kory (Amy), Ryan (Megan), Dylan, and Evan; as well as her brother, Fred (Linda) Skurka.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel; son, Aaron; and sisters, Patty, Connie, Joyce and Jeanie.
WOOD - Friends of Joan F. (Skurka) Wood, who died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, in SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where a blessing service will be conducted at noon Wednesday with the Rev. James P. Holland officiating.
She will be laid to rest in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery, Frazer Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to West Deer Dog Shelter, 109 East Union Road, Cheswick, PA 15024.
