Jonathan D. Bascom

1955 - 2026

Jonathan D. Bascom, known as "John" and "Hap," 70, of Lyndora, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
He was born on July 13, 1955, in Hampden, Mass., son of the late Lincoln and Eleanor (Vanderpoel) Bascom.
John worked for many years as a laborer and in maintenance for various organizations and he was a proud operator with Union 66. Outside of work, John enjoyed camping trips with friends at Cook Forest State Park, fishing and canoeing, and he loved tinkering in his garage. He loved Harleys and enjoyed motorcycle rides with close friends.
John was a devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 40 years. He dedicated much of his life to carrying the message of hope and recovery to those still struggling. John mentored hundreds of men and women through the Twelve Steps with patience and compassion. He answered late-night phone calls without hesitation, met newcomers for coffee and reminded countless individuals that recovery was possible - because he was living proof. To those in the fellowship, he was not just a sponsor; he was a guiding light and a true friend.
You will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and forever honored.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Teresa M. (Dollar) Bascom; two daughters, Jess (Dave) and Megan (Dave); and two loving grandchildren. Additionally, he leaves behind his brother, Roy (Cheryl) Bascom; sisters, Pam (Willy) Johnson and Cindy (Garry) Pelletier; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Bascom and Christopher Bascom.
BASCOM - Family and friends of Jonathan D. Bascom, who died Wednesday, March 4, 2026, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler. A memory service will immediately follow in the funeral home.
