Lawrence A. Kaufman
Lawrence A. "Larry" Kaufman, 81 of Penn Drive died Saturday at his home.
Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Butler, he was the son of Ross Kaufman and Nina Strickenburg.
Mr. Kaufman, an alumnus of Butler High School and Bowling Green University, retired in 1985 as the personnel director for Richardson, Gordon & Associates of Pittsburgh.
During World War II, he served in France and Germany as a private first class in the Army's 320th Infantry Regiment. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge 170, the American Legion Post 117, the VFW Post 249 and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was an avid golfer and sports fan and was a Civil War and WWII historian. He also enjoyed animals and bird watching.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie A. Kaufman, whom he married Oct. 10, 1953; a son, James A. Kaufman and his wife, Tamara, of Butler; a daughter, Rebecca Wimer and her husband, Evan Alan, of Pittsburgh; four grandsons, Derek and Zachary Kaufman and Isaac and Samuel Wimer; and two granddaughters, Natalie and Julia Wimer.
He also is survived by a brother, Earl Kaufman of Butler, and a number of nieces and nephews
A brother and a sister preceded him in death.
Kaufman - Friends of Lawrence A. "Larry" Kaufman, who died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Menges, pastor of the Covenant Church of Pittsburgh, officiating.
Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
Members of the VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.
