Robert Clouse Obituary

Robert Leo Clouse, 81, of Slippery Rock Township, passed away at his residence on Sunday, March 2, 2025, following an extended illness.
Bob was born in Butler on June 20, 1943, to Aylesworth Leo Clouse and Katherine Lucille Miller Clouse. He grew up in the Institute Hill neighborhood of Butler. As a child, he played football and baseball, displayed and raced model trains with his father and brothers, was an altar boy at St. Peter Church in Butler, a Soap Box Derby champion and an Eagle Scout.
Bob attended St. Peter Catholic School before spending three years at St. Fidelis Seminary. He spent his senior year at Butler High School and was on the Golden Tornado varsity tennis team. After high school, Bob enlisted in the military and was invited to join the Army Security Agency, studying at the Army language school in Monterey, Calif., before being stationed in Germany for three years.
After the Army, Bob returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Deanna Kathryn Stephenson, on July 9, 1966. He continued his education at Fenn College of Engineering (Cleveland State University), graduating with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He began his career with Armco Steel in Butler, retiring as general manager for engineering and maintenance after 37 years of service.
Retirement was short-lived for Bob as he soon began a construction management role at St. Vincent College in Latrobe. What started as a short-term gig turned into an 18-year career that introduced new friends, experiences and golf courses in the Laurel Highlands.
In addition to his professional life, Bob was a constant and committed member of the community. He served on the board of directors of the Armco Credit Union for over 30 years, was on the parish council at St. Peter in Butler and the finance council at St. Faustina in Slippery Rock, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bob enjoyed many pursuits, including hunting and camping trips, woodworking projects, and traveling with family and friends. Along with his wife, Deanna, he was part of a couples card club for over 50 years. His main passion was golf and he played in several leagues, worked his slice at courses around the country (including achieving a coveted ace) and helped raise tens of thousands of dollars through charity outings. He also loved identifying the many birds in his backyard, working through a crossword with a mechanical pencil and perfecting his ham gravy recipe.
Bob will be remembered by family and close friends for his generosity, intellect, hard work, helpfulness and easy sense of humor. He was always up for a project. He let others shine. He always showed up.
Bob is survived by his wife, Deanna K. Clouse; son, Mark R. (Deanna L.) Clouse of Sewickley; daughters, Dr. Amy L. Clouse of Philadelphia and Lisa M. Clouse of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Ellen R. Clouse of Pittsburgh, Benjamin D. Clouse of Big Sky, Mont., and Annie K. Clouse of Sewickley; sister, Mary Alice (Bill) Scheller of Butler; brothers, Thomas L. (Celine) Clouse of Lititz and John L. (Vicki) Clouse of Butler; and beloved sister-in-law, Sister Donna Stephenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dear Clouse Family. I am not sure if you are the right family. I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sometime in the late 1970´s or early 1980´s I knew Bob Clouse. The Bob I knew had been in the Army CID and had been to language school in CA. I owned a Security Buiness in Baton Rouge Rouge. My only connection is that he must have worked for Foremost McKesson or W. R. Grace. Also, Bob had new 380 ZX car. He had a friend at Fort Polk named Ernie Roll. I knew nothing about his other business accomplishments. Of course I have not heard from Bob in over forty years. I am sorry to have bothered you if I have the wrong person. He was a very likable smart person.

Deanna, I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was a great person. I lived next to his in-laws and he helped me get my engineering internship at Armco.

I met Bob through working on a construction project at St. Vincent and immediately appreciated his knowledge, calm demeanor, and wit. We began golfing together with Captain Jack and Ken Brace a couple of times a year. They were some of my most cherished rounds of golf. The banter and friendly competition was great, especially the day Bob had the yips at Tom's Run and could not hit a chip shot to save his life! I don't recall Ken and I ever losing to Bob and Jack (and I am sure they don't remember ever losing to us!) I look foreword to renewing the competition in Heaven.
God Bless his family and friends. His passing leaves a large void in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to have known him.

Bob and Dave grew up in Butler and met as young boys in the neighborhood. They stayed friends after high school. They both went into the military and kept in touch. Dave was stationed in Italy when Bob and Deanna were married. Bob was a groomsmen in our wedding in December of 1967. Although we have lived in the Cleveland,Ohio area, our friendship has continued. When visiting Butler and Slippery Rock we saw Bob and Deanna and their family. We enjoyed many high school reunions together. The guys cheered for the Pittsburgh baseball and football teams. We will miss Bob, he was a special friend and a wonderful man. God's Blessings and Our Love, Bonnie & Dave Snyder

I want to express my sincere condolences to Bob's wife Deanna and his entire family. I had the good fortune to meet Bob over 20 years ago working at Saint Vincent College. Over those years we shared a weekly lunch that included many great conversations about golf, hunting and world affairs. Bob was a quiet, private and unassuming gentleman who always had a kind word for anyone he met. He was a man of deep Catholic faith and cherished his family above all else. We played as partners in many golf outings together and tore up some beautiful courses in Myrtle Beach and Pinehurst. Bob will have a lasting legacy at Saint Vincent reflecting in the many building projects that he facilitated over his 18 years of service to the College and Archabbey. I know he is on the first Tee at one of the many golf courses in Heaven, waiting to join a foresome and probably asking for strokes. They won't know about his sneaky short game. It was truly my honor and privilege to be able to call him my friend.
Bob, I'll see you on the other side. Save a spot for me on the Tee. You will always be remembered my friend! - Captain Jack

Bob was a really great guy. Although I only saw Bob at reunions after Kay and I left Butler in 1983, it was always fun to see him and catch up. Rest in piece. Bill

I met Bob while he was attending Cleveland State U. I was working at Ford Motor and his roommate was working as co-op student.at the time. Being a fellow Pennsylvanian we became instant friends, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, golf and scotch. Between Bob, his wife Deanna and their extended family, I could never ask for better or lasting friends,60plus years. Their home was my second home. Bob, you will never know what an influence you made on so many people. Your humility and generosity will always remain in our hearts. God bless you,Bob, until we meet again. Larry

Bob was a role model, a person I could go to for advice both professionally and personally. He was always ready to help in any situation, no matter what was asked of him. His guidance in troubled times was source of comfort, and his easy sense of humor would put you at ease. He will be missed, but we must remember him for the great things he has give us. I am fortunate that god allowed me time with Bob and I am forever grateful. He will now help our lord "engineer" things in heaven.
