Robert “Mort” Mortimer Obituary

Robert "Mort" D. Mortimer, 87, of Butler, went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.
Robert was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Butler, and was the son of Gertrude Hempfling Cherry and Harry Mortimer.
On Dec. 8, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Daugherty. They were happily married for 65 years. Family was most important to Bob. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; and his five children, Cindy (Andy) Walowen, of Butler, Donna (Mike) Osbourne, of Butler, Julie (Dave) Davis, of Harrisville, Robert (Leslie) Mortimer, of Portersville, and Brian (Brandi) Mortimer, of Butler. Bob has 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James Mortimer and Kim Cherry; and two stepbrothers.
During his life, Mort proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and later in the Army National Guard. He retired from Berry Metal Company after 24 years of service.
What he loved most, however, was entertaining his family and friends with his many talents, including walking on his hands, juggling eggs and telling incredible stories (most of which were true). Mort was an avid golfer and bowler and in his younger years, he was the ultimate camper, hunter, weightlifter and gymnast. The list of his abilities seemed endless. For more than 30 years, he treasured his trips to Myrtle Beach, sharing laughter, sunshine and memories with those he loved.
A man of deep faith, Mort enjoyed sharing the gospel with others. He was a devoted member of Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, where he served as both deacon and elder. He generously volunteered his time with the Food Cupboard, funeral dinners, Meals on Wheels, and Vacation Bible School. Mort was one of the most giving souls and he had a way of making everyone feel like the most important person in the world.
In closing, Bob (father, father-in-law, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and uncle) will deeply be missed, but we will forever hold his memory close in our hearts.
MORTIMER - Visitation for Robert "Mort" D. Mortimer, who died Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 5, at Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, 727 W. Old Route 422, Butler. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Mark Allio, his church pastor, officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of RAISLEY FUNERAL HOME, Prospect.

My sympathy to Beverly and the rest of Mort´s family. He was an incredibly talented man and a wonderful friend. I met him when I was in grade school and he was often by to visit my big brother Bruce Watson. He was a good man with lots of entertaining stories and super powers which would make anyone smile. He was a valued employee at Berry Metal Company and a loyal friend. I loved his obituary and how well it showed what a wonderful family man and reliable friend Mort has always been. He will never be forgotten and we will be glad that he is in heaven waiting for the rest of us who loved him to enjoy a visit with him again.

I got to know Mort at Lake Arthur golf course and I am thankful for it. Mort always seemed to have smile on his face and never in a bad mood regardless of how his golf game was going. The world would a much better place if all people lived as Mort did. Sincere condolences to Mort´s family and friends.
