Andrew Sutter Obituary

Andrew Michael Sutter

Portland, TX

Andrew Michael Sutter

October 27, 1993 - December 11, 2016

"Don't let a little thing like the fall of your empire keep you from building your own Rome." - Andrew Sutter, from his 2012 Valedictorian speech.

Andrew Sutter, age 23, passed away this past Sunday evening while at his home in College Station. He always stayed in good physical condition, but was diagnosed with type one diabetes in high school and passed away due to a diabetic complication.

Andrew is survived by his parents Dr. David and Vivian Sutter, and his two younger sisters, Bethany and Cara. He also leaves his grandparents, Herbert and Janet Sutter and William and Jean Manning, as well as David's brother, and his family, Greg Sutter and children Olivia, Michael and Josie; and Vivian's sister and her family, JR and Kristen Brown with their children Molly and Parker.

Andrew was born and raised in Portland, TX. He graduated from Gregory-Portland High School in 2012 as Valedictorian and a National Merit Scholar. While succeeding academically, he also enjoyed a love for basketball and played on the varsity team. Andrew completed his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering. He served as Community Service Chair in the Pre-Med Society at Texas A&M. Andrew was currently in his first year of medical school at Texas A&M College of Medicine.

Andrew was very active. He loved mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, or anything outside. He and his family made it a habit of visiting Colorado. Andrew and his roommates - Harrison Brewer and Luka Budilo - would frequently go on adventures in College Station, hiking around Lake Bryan, biking on trails they'd find together, and skeet shooting. They also enjoyed hanging out at their house, grilling and having backyard campfires. Andrew had many friends within the Pre-Med Society and medical school who also spent much time with him and loved him immensely.

Andrew was truly one of a kind - diligent, hardworking, intelligent beyond compare, witty, dependable. He had incredible focus. So many hours were spent behind closed doors studying. Andrew had a true passion for learning; he genuinely enjoyed the pursuit of knowledge. Even with his dedication to school, Andrew stayed lighthearted. He was the guy in the room that wouldn't say much, but when he did, everyone in the room was laughing hysterically. No matter the hour, he was there for his family and friends. He took care of his sisters and made sure they knew they could call on him for a ride, help with homework or when they needed a strong stable hand and good advice. He spent countless hours with his grandparents enjoying special meals and holidays. Andrew Sutter is a name the Portland and College Station community will never forget. The weight of sorrow is unspeakable; but we honor Andrew, celebrating and thanking God for the life he lived so well.

Andrew would want nothing more than to provide the opportunity to support local students achieve the academic pursuits he so loved.

A memorial has been set up in Andrew's name to provide scholarships to high school students to help them with their academic careers. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Andrew Sutter Memorial Fund, c/o Frost Bank 500 West Broadway Portland, TX 78374. The funeral will be held Saturday December 17, 2016, at the Gregory-Portland Junior High School at 2:00 pm. Arrangements entrusted to Limbaugh Funeral Home, 500 Wildcat Drive, Portland, Texas 78374, 361-643-6564, www.limbaughfuneralhome.com

As a mother of an Aggie and now a practicing nurse I can understand the pride you have in your son! I can only try to understand your loss! Andrew achieved and gave so much, obviously, and that will serve as comfort forever! May God surround you with family and friends and Angels as you continue your journey.

Thank you, Dr. Sutter, for your care of my own father, Steve Dalton. Especially these past weeks as he has gone through his hospitalization and treatment. Oftentimes, the sufferings you and yours are going through and the sacrifices are lost to the needs of others and their family member's treatment. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!

God be with you and your family!

Dr. Sutter, there are no words that I can think of to adequately describe to you how heartsick and hollow inside the pit of my stomach I feel for you, his mother, two sisters, grandparents right now. There truly are no words.... As a long time patient of yours, I think of the pictures of Andrew and his sisters on hiking trips that I have looked at on the walls of your exam rooms while waiting to see you. Just know that I am praying for you and your family daily. I'm praying the the Lord will guide you through these dark days. Your beloved son is in a place now more beautiful and wonderful than any of us can begin to comprehend. He is in the presence of his Heavenly Father. May Almighty God Bless you and your family.

Dr Sutter and family there are no words that can convey the true sorrow I feel for your loss. Why our children have to die before really experiencing life is beyond human comprehension. They say only the good die young and that phrase holds true for Andrew. With all my love I want you to know if there is anything at all I can do for you please do not hesitate to ask. Day or night. All my love and support to you, your family at home and your work family as well

I will lend you, for a little time,
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief.
You'll have his lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
In search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come
To take him home again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand.

So very sorry for the loss of your beautiful son.
