Armando Flores Obituary

Our beloved father, Retired Judge Armando Diaz Flores, 86, passed away on December 23, 2007. Judge Flores, son of Braulio A. Flores and Preciliana D. Flores, was born September 17, 1921 in Mission, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria Luisa Flores and their four children: Armando Flores, Jr., Thelma Pickett, Richard Paul Flores, and Rosemary Loa. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren: Alethea V. Flores, Cassandra Cisneros, Justin Loa and Jennifer Loa as well as his great-grand children, Violet Botello and Genesis Adams. Judge Flores is a graduate of Corpus Christi High School Class of ?41 and attended classes at Corpus Christi Business College and South Texas State College. He enlisted in the Army Air Force during WWII and was honorably discharged. He returned to Corpus Christi and served as a Court Interpreter in the 105th District Court in Corpus Christi. He was elected to the position of Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 1 and served from June 1965 through December 1972 then again from January 1977 to December 1987 and finally from October 1999 to December 2000. Judge Flores retired on December 31, 2000 and moved a few years later to Austin, Texas to be close to his children. Judge Flores was honored to be recognized by the Texas State Genealogical Society as Texas First Family with family land grants dating back to 1750. Judge Flores participated in or was a member of the following activities or organizations: was active in Boy Scouts (Troop # 153) and served as Scout Master for several years, was active in the building of Little League and Pony League Parks to serve the community as well as promoting amateur boxing and basketball, participated in International Bowling Tournaments and was active in International Basketball Tournaments with teams in Monterrey Mexico, and was a member of Corpus Christi Bowling Hall of Fame, Life Member of Disabled American Veterans, Member of Justice of the Peace and Constables Association of Texas, Member of Corpus Christi Cathedral Catholic Church. Retired Judge, Armando D. Flores, is now at peace with all those that have gone before, in particular with his grandson, Marine Private Paul H. Flores who passed away on active duty in 2006. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2007 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Rites of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Corpus Christi Cathedral Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, www.lungusa.org.
