Douglas Commons Obituary

Douglas T. Commons

Douglas T. Commons, 49, went to our Heavenly Father on Friday, October 25, 2019. He was born on May 11, 1970 to Christopher and Valerie Commons in Corpus Christi, Texas. Doug was a loving husband to his wife, Laura, for 28 years and a devoted father to his son Sean and his daughter Madeline. Faith and family were the most important things in his life. He enjoyed cooking and watching a good game with family. He thoroughly enjoyed the comradery and training at Contender Crossfit. He was a marathon runner, avid cyclist and a dedicated advocate for the American Heart Association. A good time with Doug always included a good fart joke or him just telling you like it is.

Doug was a fireman for the Refinery Terminal Fire Company (RTFC), a profession he loved dearly. As Captain, he was a mentor to his fellow firefighters. Doug was respected for the man he was and his leadership. The RTFC was truly a second family to him.

He was considered a beautiful man with a quiet and undeniable strength by all.

Doug is preceded in death by his grandparents, Norbert and Dawn Commons, Lambert & Angela Pollack, his Aunt, Mary King and Uncle, Michael Pollack.

He is survived by his wife, Laura, son, Sean (Meagann), daughter Madeline, his parents Christopher and Valerie Commons, his sisters Adrienne (Johnni) Cavazos, Lisa (Mark) Davani, Sandra (Scott) Leeton and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug was excited to recently learn that he was going to be a grandfather.

Public visitation will begin at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at Saint Patrick Catholic church, 3350 So. Alameda with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Saint Patrick Catholic church. All services will conclude at church.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association - Coastal Bend in Doug's honor at 500 N. Shoreline St. Suite 230 Corpus Christi, TX 78401, (Ph) 361-445-3190.

DOUG, You were such a genuine, respectful, caring individual and I should know because you were my Captain at one time. I'm still grateful for those birthday meals you prepared for me and the guys it was over the top. Everytime we met up it wasn't just a handshake but a hug to go along with it. I'm thankful to have been on your team for the golf tournament and the heart walk and all the times we trained together just so I would get it right. You Sir were very inspirational to us all and we will miss you greatly but we will carry on like you would have and will expect us to do. Love you forever BROTHER

Dearest Doug, your loving family and friends:

Doug when you had your 1st heart attack, it was very obvious that GOD had another plan for you, it was just not your time. Despite the odds you came back strong as ever.

Whether GOD needed you here on this earth to continue to swoon, love and give strength to your loving wife, Laura. He gave you those years. Laura's heart was wrapped around yours and she spoke of you all the time. She just always had a shine about her when spoke of HER DOUG.

Maybe GOD needed you here with Laura to get your Sean and Mady to a point in their lives where they would able to pick up the pieces and continue to grow into the wonderful adults that they have become. You and Laura have done a wonderful job, they are both amazing.

GOD may have thought that he had another purpose for you and that was to spread the word of GOD to friends and other people that you would meet and give these people a purpose to live a good healthy life with GOD being a priority.

Being a firefighter is a selfless job. The team of men and women that you worked with put your lives on the line everyday for us. I praise you Doug and all the others for serving us in that capacity.

Losing you Doug, is devastating and sad and everyone will miss you greatly, but you must have completed GOD'S plan for you and now he has a bigger one for you.

Please beam warmth and love over your family. We will try our best to help them through this difficult time.

I'm going to say what I said in Facebook because the impact you made on me deserved nothing but respect. I remember at the old station, I think it was my first week, I had lunch with you, we got to talking and you told me how much you enjoyed working on cars and that you were damn good at it. So we went back and forth about how you've rebuilt motors and I rebuilt motors, and then we got into our car knowledge so I said to you, so that's your passion huh, working on cars? You stopped eating, looked me dead in the eyes and said, if that was my passion, that's what I'd be doing. A remark deserving of respect and a comment a true firefighter would make. I nodded and we just kept on eating. I'll cherish those conversations and times you'd just come to visit me in the office. My heart goes out to Laura and the the whole family. Please keep your angel wings covering your brothers and sisters that continue to fight the good fight down here. Protect them and guide them as you always have. Our world lost a great man, but heaven was made a better place. You made a mark that changed the world for so many. May you continue to do that from up above. I love you brother and I am so fortunate to have had you as part of my life. Rest In Peace sir. Gone but never forgotten.

Valerie and Chris I am so sorry to hear about Doug's passing. I know first hand too well what it is like to lose a son as I lost Clint in 2006 and in 2017 lost
Earl James. Please know I am praying for you all and hugging you as that was what I needed most when I was hurting. Sincere condolences, Brenda Revett
