Eddie HernandezCorpus Christi, TXEddie (Ed) Hernandez , 62, passed away on Friday, February 21, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1951 in Victoria, Texas to Charlie Hernandez Jr and Doris Garcia Reynolds. He was raised in Tivoli, Texas and moved to Corpus Christi in 1963. He moved back and forth to Houston but always found his way back to Corpus because of his love to live by the 'water'. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, wife, Daurnee Hernandez and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. He was employed as a hydroblaster and water blaster for many years and owned his own carpet business. He was very proud of having helped defend his country by serving in the United States Air Force. As he struggled with dementia he never forgot that he was a Vietnam Veteran and reminded everyone he met. Eddie never met a stranger and was always willing to extend a helping hand. As dementia robbed him of his memory, he always had a trademark smile that would melt your heart away.He is survived by his beloved children Michelle Ann Stewart, Samuel Edward Homeyer and David Angelo Homeyer of Houston. His beloved grandchildren are Nyejuel Homeyer, Alec Stewart, Sarah, Hannah and Lacey Blackstone. He also leaves behind brothers Charlie Hernandez III and Gary James (Josie) Hernandez, Roy (Yasuko) Hernandez and sisters Betty Lou Rutherford, Barbara Ann (Bryan) Homeyer, Connie Jean (Alex) Coronado and Sylvia Contreras. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Trisun-Westwood Nursing Home for the love and care given to him and for accepting him as he put it one night as 'family'. Many thanks to Dr. Parmaker, VA Clinic for caring for him for many years as his health deteriorated. The family also thanks the doctors and nurses from Spohn Shoreline A4 ICU, A7 & 5E for the wonderful care and support on his recent hospital stay. Last but not least Ed would have wanted to thank his beloved niece Jessica Buhidar for being his caretaker in the last years of his life along with his beloved sister Betty.Inurnment will take place at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery 9974 IH 37 Access Road Corpus Christi, Friday February 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.
