Ellen Kelly Ball

Corpus Christi, TX

Ellen Kelly Ball of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away August 16, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the third child born to Levi and Doris Kelly. She spent the first seven years of her life in the small town of Agua Dulce, Texas, then her family moved to Bishop, Texas where the Kelly family had been early pioneer settlers in the area in 1912. She graduated from Bishop High School in 1973.

Ellen began college at Texas A&I University in Kingsville where she pledged the Chi Omega Sorority. After two years at A&I, she transferred to Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, Texas and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education.

Ellen began her teaching career in Spring, Texas and taught one year before returning to South Texas. Upon her return, she began teaching in Sinton, Texas for a few years where she met her husband of nearly thirty years, William "Bill" C. Ball. She then began teaching sixth grade in Calallen and continued teaching there until retirement.

Like her mother, she was gifted, with a beautiful singing voice which she used for the glory of God, singing in her church choir as well as a soloist in church and weddings.

Ellen was a loving friend, wife, and mother of two beautiful daughters, Abby and Kelly Ball. She loved her family, and loved teaching.

She was a fun loving person with a great sense of humor. If Ellen was your friend, you truly had a friend. She had many close friends, many of whom were lifelong friends.

She also loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She showed such faith, courage, and grace as she battled cancer after losing her husband only one and one half years before her death. She will be so very missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Levi and Doris Kelly; and her brother, William "Bill" A. Kelly; and her husband, William "Bill" C. Ball.

She is survived by her daughters, Abby Ball of Irving, Texas and Kelly Ball of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; her sister, Janie (Bruce) Dugger of Corpus Christi, Texas; her mother-in-law, Arlene Ball of Missouri City, Texas; her nieces, Lauren (Reese) Weller and Lanna (Greyson) Slough, both of Missouri City, Texas; two great nephews, Reese IV and Graham Weller; several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas "Calallen".

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at River Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Simmons officiating.

Burial will follow at Restland Memory Park in Bishop, Texas.

The family has requested memorials be made to Restland Memory Park, P.O. Box 142, Bishop, Texas 78343 or River Hills Baptist Church, P.O. Box 260200, Corpus Christi, Texas 78426.

Mrs. Ball was my favorite middle school teacher. I rarely look in the obituaries and coincidentally saw hers in the newspaper. I don't remember many teachers I had growing up but I remember her. She made class fun and had a great sense of humor. My condolences to her family.

Ellen was a real sweetheart! I remember fondly when she was a mascot for the Agua Dulce Longhorn cheerleaders. Our families were great friends back in those days. Sending heartfelt condolences on behalf of the King Family.
