Ellen Mitchell

Ellen MitchellREFUGIO, TXLaura Ellen Mitchell, passed away on February 24, 2016. She was born April 10, 1925, to Dan and Eloise Kuykendall Reagan in Waxahachie, Texas. In 1946 She married the love of her life, J.C. Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and her husband, J.C. Mitchell. Survivors Include her sister, Georgene Ridner of Fredericksburg, a daughter, Sue (Bill) Corwin of Durango, Colorado, and their children, Colin and Erin Corwin, of Durango, a son, Steve Mitchell of Refugio and his sons, Jeremy (Sarah) of Greenville and Jonathan (Jodi) of Wisconsin, plus six great-grandchildren. In 1946, Mrs. Mitchell graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelor of Music Degree and Later received her Master of Education from Prairie View A&M. She taught music in Pearsall, Carrizo Springs, and Refugio schools. She retired from teaching after 32 years of service, 28 of which were given to Refugio Elementary Jr. High. She also served as choir director, organist and Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Refugio for many years as well as teaching private music. The family would like to thank her care givers: Lupe Cortes, Rosemary Guerrera, Gloria Garcia, Viola Valdarez and Patty Jo Bland. They would like to thank Mission Ridge Nursing and Rehab and Hospice Care for all their services. An informal memorial service will be at 2:00 P.M. at the Presbyterian Church at 305 W.
