I am so sad to hear of Mr. Graves passing. I was one of his band students at Wynn Seale Jr High School in 1966. Condoles to his family and friends. He is truly missed and never forgotten.

Mr. Graves was my band director at Wynn Seale. I still quote him regularly. He would tell us if we make a mistake once, it's a mistake. Twice...you're not thinking. Three times and you're just stupid! And then we got (lovingly) knocked on the head. I have rarely encountered anyone in life who has earned and kept my respect as this great man did. Step lively angel band, you're about to get a lot better! May your family take comfort in knowing that you had a profoundly positive influence in the lives of many such as mine.

I had the pleasure and privilege of teaching with Gilbert at Wynn Seale in the mid 60's. He was a wonderful person to be around for both teachers and students. One of my favorite recollections of Gilbert is that he always initialed documents with a G squared symbol. Since I was a math teacher that was specially meaningful for me. When my son was born I named him Gilbert which one of our family names and since my last name is Garcia I thought why not, he can also use the G squared symbol to sign documents. May God bless all the family during this challenging time.
I am sure Gilbert is in heaven organizing some band activity as he really enjoyed his chosen profession.

May he rest in peace. He was a strict band director at Wynn Seale but we were always #1 band under his direction. His saying stuck with me all my career.."Results, not excuses"...thank you Mr Graves.
