Harry Heaney Obituary
Harry Gilbert Heaney, II, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2003. He was 67. Harry was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 19, 1936 while his father completed medical school. Immediately following his birth, his family returned to Corpus Christi. The fourth of five generations from South Texas, Harry graduated high school from New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico and received a degree in Biology from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. While attending college, he met and later married Betty Bucy from Longview, Texas. Harry joined the United States Army and was stationed in Mainz, Germany for two years. Following military service, Harry began a successful career in real estate in Houston and later founded Heaney Construction and Tocayos Properties in Corpus Christi. He held a pilot's license with instrument, commercial and airline transport ratings. Harry was active in numerous civic organizations, including Rotary, the Boy Scouts of America and other youth organizations. He was a Master Mason of Corpus Christi Masonic Lodge #189 AF & AM, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Al Amin Shrine Temple. Harry was also a member of the Corpus Christi Yacht Club and the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Harry lived his life to the fullest. He was a kind, generous and intelligent man who touched the lives of many people. Harry spoke numerous languages and he loved to travel with his family and friends. His love of Mexico and Mexican culture were duly noted in his tastes of music and design. Harry was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing and boating. He was a huge fan of Texas A&M Javelina football, and frequently traveled with the team to out-of-state football games. Harry was one in a million. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Harry Gordon Heaney and Elizabeth Schade van Westrum Heaney. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Heaney; son, Harry Gordon Heaney, II, daughter-in-law, Anne Heaney and granddaughter Kathryn Betty Heaney of Houston; sister, Helen Heaney Wood and brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Cunningham Wood of Corpus Christi; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Bucy and wife Lynn Bucy of El Paso and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. November 8, 2003 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.
