Homero C. CanalesAlice, TXHomero C. Canales, 73, passed away March 25, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born November 5, 1939 in Laredo, Texas. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed in Germany. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University ' College Station in 1962 and was a proud 'fightin' Texas Aggie'. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from St. Mary's University ' School of Law and was a prominent South Texas defense attorney for over 41 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alice and the Adult 4 Men's Sunday School Class. One of the highlights of his career was representing the Mayor of Alice, at the time, in a custody battle for a five pound shitzu, 'Panchito'. The case drew national media attention and even made the front page of the New York Post; something that most attorneys and judges strive for.He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa and Guadalupe Canales of Laredo, Texas and one sister, Florencia (Polly) Herring of Helotes, TexasSurvivors include his wife of 15 years, Alice Joy (A.J.) Canales of Alice, Texas; two daughters, Jessica (Lee) Lundin of Austin, Texas and Allyson Jones of Brooklyn, New York; one son, Ron (Annette) Jones of Austin, Texas; one sister, Raquel Vidaurri of Laredo, Texas; two brothers, Wallace (Carmelita) Canales of Alice, Texas and Luis (Lesbia Cecilia) Canales of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Alexandra Lundin, Dane Lundin, Kate Jones and Tory Jones; and a very special friend, Bea Garza. Last but not least, Homero and A.J.'s numerous four-legged family members, in particular, his Chihuahua, 'Romeo' who was his faithful and loyal companion.
