John Edward PrezasCORPUS CHRISTI, txJohn Edward Prezas, 64, a long-time resident of Corpus Christi was called home to the side of his heavenly Father on September 29, 2013. Awarded a full scholarship as a Ford Fellow, John earned a master's degree in psychology from the University of Washington. John retired after 28 years of service as a tenured professor of counseling from Del Mar College where he helped many achieve their educational goals and, thereby, their dreams. John is survived by his two sons John (Regina) Prezas and their daughter Savannah of Austin, Texas and Jared (Crystal) Prezas and their children Hunter, Jared Jr., and Cambryn of Floresville, Texas, his mother Patricia Galvan Prezas, his brother Dr. Raul (Sylvia) Prezas both of Corpus Christi, Texas and a host of others in his large, affectionate, and extremely close extended family whom he was blessed to have surround him his entire life. John was preceded in death by his father, Johnny G. Prezas.Pallbearers include Alfred Boyd, Robert Gonzalez, Luis Oliveira Jr., Dr. Raul F. Prezas Jr., Dr. John A. Prezas, and Edward Vasquez.Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi, with a Methodist Service to follow from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Corpus Christi Cathedral. Following his wishes, John will be laid to rest next to his father in the Galvan family section at Rose Hill Memorial Park. John is remembered for his groundbreaking work in the development of guided imagery therapy, particularly for its use in reducing test-anxiety as well as his dedication to serving others, and the loving heart he shared with all who knew him.
