John Wadsworth Obituary
WADSWORTH John Wadsworth, 60, a boat captain for the Potomac River Boat Company in Alexandria, Virginia, died on August 16, 2009, in Fairfax, Virginia following a short illness. John was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Wadsworth,  nephew Robin Wadsworth, nieces Amy Wadsworth and Jane Wadsworth and his step-father David W. Murphy. He is survived by his three children, John Wadsworth, of Braintree, Massachusetts, Tara Wadsworth, of Huntington, West Virginia, Mary Wadsworth, of Braintree, Massachusetts, his mother, Ruth Wadsworth Murphy, of Lewisburg, West Virginia and his loving companion, Mary Halleman of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a brother, Rick Wadsworth, of Oak Hill, West Virginia, sister Kathryn Wadsworth and husband David Deardorff, of Port Townsend, Washington, sister Sarah Wadsworth and companion Kieth Cales, of Brooks, West Virginia, sister Lauren Wadsworth and companion Jeff Kessler, of Renick, West Virginia, step-brother Warren Murphy and his wife Cathy of Little Rock, Arkansas and their three children, step-sister Katherine Pratt and her husband Terry, of Little Rock, Arkansas and their three children, nieces Kate Wadsworth and husband Brad Moon, of Lafayette, Lousiania, Deya Terrafranca, of Sandstone, West Virginia, Annie Terrafranca of Denver, Colorado, nephews Nicholas Terrafranca and fiancé KarenGondoly of Boston, Massachusetts. Tony Terrafranca and his companion Mary Legg, of Denver, Colorado, Patrick Fern, of Morgantown, West Virginia, Sam Kessler and Jules Kessler, both of Renick, West Virginia, and numerous cousins.Born on December 2, 1948 in Washington, DC, John attended Sidwell Friends School and graduated from Walden School, both  in Washington, DC. John began working on boats when he lived in Port Aransas, Texas, originally on shrimp boats and later delivering crews and equipment to off-shore oil rigs in the Gulf Of Mexico. After relocating to the Washington, DC area in the 1980's and working briefly in real estate, he returned to the work he loved as a boat captain. In recent years he worked as a captain on large boats in both the Boston and New York City harbors, but in the last year had returned to work on the Potomac River. John was always happiest on the water and with his three children. A memorial service will be held in Port Aransas, Texas. The date has not yet been determined.
