John Hill Wilshusen Corpus Christi, TXJohn Hill Wilshusen went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, January 17, 2016. John was born on September 24, 1927, in Galveston, Texas, and was the oldest of three sons. He graduated high school at 15 years of age and began attending Texas A&M University before leaving his studies to serve as a Corporal in the United States Army Air Corps in the Pacific Front of World War II. Upon returning home he met the love of his life, Jo Anne. The two were married in Houston on August 27, 1948. They began their lives together in College Station, where John graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering. His career in oil and gas allowed them to live all over our great state before settling in Corpus Christi in 1956, where they raised three sons together. John loved to travel, whether it was visiting historical sites around the world, hosting ski trips, or logging countless miles on Texas two-lanes to 'sit on wells'. Big John and Grand Jo also shared their love of travel with their sons and grandchildren. John was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for nearly 60 years and was involved in outreach activities and United Methodist Men. Together with his wife, he participated in numerous mission trips from Texas to Panama to Brazil. John served as treasurer of the National Society of the Washington Family Descendants. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and served as President of the Southwest Texas Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME. John was a devout and proud Aggie and was bestowed with the Golden Circle Certificate from the Sul Ross Group to honor his devoted interest in Texas A&M University. John was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and William Wilshusen, brother, Billy Wilshusen, son, Doug Wilshusen, and grandson, Brian Wilshusen. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jo Anne Wilshusen, two sons, Scott (Elaine) Wilshusen of Midland and son Greg Wilshusen of Corpus Christi, brother, George (Joan) Wilshusen of Houston, grandchildren: Wade (Jennifer) Wilshusen of Katy, Alicia (Brian) Vedder of Cypress, Lauren (Ben) Krech of Georgetown, and John Michael Wilshusen of Midland; six great-grandchildren; and a treasured extended family. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. A Graveside Service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21 at Seaside Memorial Park will precede a Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 5300 South Alameda.
