Laura Neck Obituary

NECK Laura Raydie Neck, born August 18, 1941 in Brownsville, Texas, passed away on June 2, 2009 at local nursing home in Corpus Christi, Texas. Raydie was the eldest child and only daughter of Laura Raydie Rentfro and O.W. Neck, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a loyal sister, loving aunt, dedicated social worker and humanitarian, and always a good friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Raydie grew up in Brownsville, Texas and after completing high school locally, she attended Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas and graduated with a B.A. Encouraged by her family, and especially by her grandmother and mother, Raydie continued her education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she completed her Masters in Social Work. After graduation she was employed by the state of California as a social worker, where she remained until she returned to Brownsville, Texas in 1975 to work for the State of Texas. In 1979 she moved to Corpus Christi to work for Nueces County. She was employed by Nueces County as a social worker until her retirement in 2004. Raydie helped countless clients in her long career. She truly cared for them and worked tirelessly for years in spite of her own troubled health. In addition to her career as a social worker, Raydie was an active member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She believed wholeheartedly in and actively supported their mission. She was also very active in Beta Sigma Phi and leaves many faithful friends behind in both groups. Raydie will always be remembered for her love of laughter, service in the community and devotion to family and friends. Raydie is survived by her brothers Oran (Mickey) of Brownsville, Texas, Thomas (Rose) of Jacksonville, Florida and John (Betsy) of Laguna Vista, Texas and her nieces Sarah Neck of Jacksonville, Florida, Kym Neck of Port Isabel, Texas and Molly Neck-Borshard of San Antonio, Texas and her nephew Thomas Neck of Jacksonville, Florida.
