Lee Karstens Obituary

Lee KarstensCorpus Christi, TXMy dad, Lee Karstens passed away peacefully at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 1, 2015. He was born in La Grange, Illinois, on September 11, 1926. He enlisted in the United States Army May 31, 1947. Served with the 1176th Engineer Construction Group during his enlistment in Korea. He was honorably discharged May 30, 1950. He was awarded a World War II Victory Medal during that time. He was a member of the American Legion. As a long time Corpus Christi resident he worked in construction and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He also worked aboard building oil refineries in St. Thomas US. Virgin Islands, Venezuela, and India. In June 1977, he begin his 30 year civil service career with the Department of the Navy at the Naval Air Station where he served in various capacities with uncommon distinction. In conjunction with his civil service career, he also served as commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for 20 years. As his daughter I am writing this obituary as a tribute to our relationship that lasted here on earth 62 years. Passing time can never dim a father's love-your love for him. He was my mentor, my friend. A true father that never wavered in his love for me. He guided me through my life and I know will still guide me. I want to personally thank all of you that helped watch over him and take care of him. He was so lucky to have all of you in his life. Your efforts and love meant everything to us. He will be greatly missed by me, all of his friends and his dogs Red, Chico, Gert and Little One.
