Lillian Steele Rambo Lee

Lillian Lee Obituary

Lillian Steele Rambo Lee was born April 5, 1914 and went to be with her Lord on June 6, 2004 at the age of 90. First diagnosed with cancer in 1988 Lillian enjoyed many happy and active years before succumbing to cancer at the home of her loving daughter. She was born in the North Beach area of Corpus Christi to James R. and Mary Grant Steele. Mr. Steele, a well known carpenter and builder in the area, was forced to relocate his family into the city after the 1919 storm destroyed the beach area, and helped rebuild many of the city's landmark structures. Lillian attended I.W.A. and graduated class of 1932. She took her first job at McKory's at age 13 and in her 70's she worked at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church Mother's Day Out. Never wanting to be idle she stayed active doing RSVP work at Briarwood Apartments Senior Center, her home these past twenty years. She was a member of AARP Chapter 2939. Her favorite pastime was shopping with her daughter, going to ballet and bin go. Lillian's unconditional love for others was her most endearing asset. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all those that had the privilege to know her. She was preceded in death by husbands, Harvey H. Rambo and Printiss E. Lee, infant son, Victor H. Rambo, daughter, Joyce Moore, sister Dorothy Bachus and nephew, Bobby Bachus. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Mary Ann and son-in-law Don Starkey of Corpus Christi, Texas; one brother, Col. James L. Steele of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Jessie Lee Saunders, Rosabell Davenport and Christine Smith, all of Corpus Christi, Texas; two granddaughters, Joanie Moore and Dena (Stephen) McCravy, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandsons, James Edwards, Randall Starkey, both of Corpus Christi, Texas and Danny (Janet) Levick of San Antonio, Texas; five great grandchildren, James Moore, Samantha McCravy and Christopher McCravy, all of Corpus Christi, Katie Levick and Leslie Levick, both of San Antonio, Texas, several nephews and nieces. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m. at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Jerrel Ponton, Pat Saunders, Bud Saunders, Gary Davenport, David Davenport and Eroy Wilkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pat Moore and David Wilkins.
