Martin 'Marty' AdrianCorpus Christi, TXAfter an 8-year battle with cancer, Martin 'Marty' Adrian went to be with our Lord on the morning of September 21, 2014. He died in his home in Rosenberg, TX, surrounded by his wife, children and mother.Born on May 18, 1965, in Corpus Christi, TX, to Thelma Bernal and Phillip Benavides, he graduated from Port Hueneme High School in Oxnard, CA, in 1983 before moving back to Texas where he lived for the rest of his life. After graduating, he opened an electrical contracting company which he owned and operated with his wife, Anna, for 23 years. He was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, enjoyed barbecuing, fishing, and loved spoiling his dogs.Marty and Anna were also big supporters of the Journey to Damascus spiritual retreat, sponsoring more than 70 attendees in Corpus Christi, Houston and Central Texas area. After meeting someone for the first time, Marty would eventually ask the inevitable: Have you gone on a Journey? I would like you to.Marty is survived by his wife of 26 years, Anna, his children, Anthony, Andrea, and Aaron all of Rosenberg, Texas, along with his mother, Thelma Bernal, of Premont, Texas; father and stepmother, Phillip and Elida Benavides of Corpus Christi, Texas; siblings Monica (Jeremiah) Narvaez of San Antonio, Texas; Lori (Gary) Smith of Houston, Texas; and Phyllis Benavides, of Corpus Christi, Texas. Marty was blessed with a huge family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved very much. He also leaves behind his four beloved dogs: Beauregard, Bella Mae, Apollo, and Kylie.He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents Daddy Louie and Memo, his stepfather Seferino 'Bernie' Bernal, his paternal grandmother, Grandma Cookie, his aunt Hilda, and his cousin Yvonne.Visitation will begin at 12 noon- 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel. Visitation will resume at 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Paul Hesse as celebrant. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park. A reception will follow the interment at the St. Pius X Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, Marty's personal request was that donations be made to Our Lady of Corpus Christi 'The Blue Dome' at 1200 Lantana Street in Corpus Christi, TX.The Adrian family sends a heartfelt thank you to the JTD community, to Houston Hospice-especially his nurse Joe-and to family and friends who brought food, offered prayers, called, texted and lent much support while Marty was under home hospice care. As Marty would always say, 'I am blessed.'
