Maurine Boggan Herring

Corpus Christi, TX

Maurine Boggan Herring, age 90, died peacefully Monday morning, June 18, 2018.

She was born on October 14, 1927 on a farm two miles outside of Bishop, Texas belonging to her parents, Wallace and Myrtle Boggan. They were farmers in the Bishop Community for many years. She later inherited the same farmland and it has remained in her possession.

Maurine attended Bishop schools and graduated from Bishop High School in 1945. She continued her education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

During her college years, she started dating her future husband, Vern Herring. Their families, both being from Bishop, had known each other for many years. Maurine and Vern both graduated from Texas A& I University in May of 1948. Soon after, on August 7, 1948, they were married in a garden wedding in Kingsville.

Maurine retired from teaching after many years in the Sinton and Corpus Christi Independent School Districts, with 23 of those years spent at William C. Calk Elementary School in Corpus Christi. She had wonderful people to work with, including prinicipals, fellow teachers, students and their parents that made her truly enjoy her teaching career.

Maurine has been a resident of Corpus Christi since 1953 and was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Vern Herring in 2010, after 61 years of marriage. He retired as Program Director for the Boy Scouts of America with the Gulf Coast Council for many years. Others preceding her in death were her parents and two older sisters: LaVern Boggan Lawhon of Odem and Lucille Boggan Roewe of Bishop.

Her survivors include two sons: Rick Herring (Debbie) of Montgomery, Texas, and Ken Herring (Laurel), of Corpus Christi. Grandchildren are Stephen Herring (Liz) of Katy, Texas, Chris Herring (Leslie) of Richmond, Texas, and Jessica Herring Wesley (David) of Manvel, Texas. Step-grandchildren are Chris Lain (Tina) and Casey Lain (Adrianne) of Corpus Christi and Aaron Lain (Jennifer) of Buda, Texas. Also surviving are six great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank her long time physician, Dr. Glenn Bugay and his nurse, Estelle McAda, her wonderful and caring caregivers, Reyna, Jan, Sabrina, Christina, Patty, and Lottie. Kristina from New Century Hospice was outstanding. She greatly enjoyed her many friends at the Mirador and her long time friend, Helen Tanner.

Everyone is invited to a memorial service followed by a reception in the Chapel at Seaside Funeral Home on Saturday, June 23rd at 1:00 pm at 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas, with Reverend Dr. Allen Mosiman of Parkway Presbyterian Church officiating. A private service for immediate family only will be held for the entombment at Seaside Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund at 3707 Santa Fe St., Corpus Christi, TX 78411 or Boy Scouts of America-South Texas Council at 700 Everhart Rd A, Corpus Christi TX 78411, or one's favorite charity.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Maurine Herring. She was my second grade teacher at Calk Elementary 56 years ago. I remember her as being very young, pretty, and our class all loved her. She was a great teacher.
