Nilda Canales Obituary

Nilda Y. Canales, 42, a lifetime resident of Benavides, Texas died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at her residence surrounded by her loving family as she fought a courageous battle with cancer. Nilda was a 1979 graduate of Altee Parr High School in Benavides, Texas and was a dedicated employee of the Benavides Post Office for several years. She was a loving wife and mother who served on numerous committees with her Daughters at School and in her community, she was a loyal Eagle fan, and was very caring and thoughtful to everyone. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cecilia "Chalila" Yzaguirre and her father-in-law, Marcelo Canales. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Canales of Benavides, Texas; three daughters, Pamela Canales, Ana Lisa Canales, and Michelle Canales of Benavides, Texas; her father, Lauro Yzaguirre of Benavides, Texas; two sisters, Beatrice Elena "Nena" (Juan Jose) Benavides of Benavides, Texas, Laura Yzaguirre of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Jesus Abel "J.A." (Patty) Yzaguirre of Benavides, Texas; mother-in-law, Conrada Canales of Benavides, Texas; three aunts: Lupita L. Garcia of Ben Bolt, Texas, Lalita L. Tamayo of Brownville, Texas; Estefanita "Hane" Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas; nieces, Cecilia "Cecil" Benavides of Edna, Texas, Gabriela Yvan Yzaguirre of Benavides, Texas; nephew, Juan Jose "JJ" Benavides, Jr. of Kerrville, Texas and numerous cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 20, 2003 from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. At Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 21, 2003 at St. Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas with Father Epifanio Rodriguez as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Lopez Cemetery in Loma Alta Ranch.
