Phoebe Jane Cunningham HatchCorpus Christi, TXPhoebe Jane Cunningham Hatch, age 80, died on February 5, 2013. Phoebe will be remembered for her enthusiasm for life and the fun she had socializing with her friends and family. She was born to Elizabeth Fischer Cunningham and Herbert Isaac Cunningham on September 20, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas. Phoebe attended the Cathedral School of St. Mary in Austin, Texas and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Home Economics. Phoebe met her husband of 57 years, Richard Joseph Hatch, Sr., at the Newman Club in Austin, Texas. They spent many dates dancing and began a lifetime of devotion to each other. In 1959, Phoebe moved to Richard's hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas where she was blessed with many dear friends with whom she could lean on and celebrate. Phoebe was active in numerous bridge groups, Cotillion Alegre, Driftwood Garden Club, and Key Study Club. In addition to her many social and civic activities, Phoebe was a devoted Catholic who was a member of St. Patrick's Church and later the Corpus Christi Cathedral. She enjoyed serving on the Cathedral Concert Series Circle and participating with beautification projects at the church. In 1984, she was proud to be inducted into the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Phoebe loved reading, had a 'green thumb' and rescued many of her children's plants on visits to their homes. She delighted in pointing out new blooms in her backyard. Her favorite sports teams were the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys and she rarely missed watching televised games.'Mimi' is survived by son Richard J. Hatch, Jr. and wife Debra of Corpus Christi, Texas; Elizabeth Padon of Houston, Texas; Mary Jane Webster and husband David of Fort Worth, Texas; Jeannette Michael and husband Robert of Austin, Texas; Patricia Billings and husband Scott of Cypress, Texas; and eleven grandchildren, Madlyn Hatch, Nicholas Padon, Frances Padon, Katie Webster, Andrew Webster, Kevin Webster, Matthew Michael, Colin Michael, Phoebe Billings, Amanda Billings and Samantha Billings. She is also survived by her brother, Herbert Cunningham.She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, and son-in-law Frank Padon.A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at Corpus Christi Cathedral and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Corpus Christi Cathedral. A private family burial will be held prior to the funeral.
