Robert E. Conwell

CONWELL Robert E. (Bob) Conwell, a long time resident of Corpus Christi, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Conwell was passionate about his family, his city, and his travels.Conwell was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania, in 1924 to E.J. and Rose Conwell. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Tulsa. He married Martha Conley in 1950 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Bradford. Conwell became sports editor for the Shreveport Louisiana Times, and two years later became General Manager of the Bossier City Chamber of Commerce.From 1952 to 1955, Conwell served as General Manager of several professional baseball clubs through-out Texas. In 1955, he established the Coastal Bend Tourist Association and later created the Corpus Christi Area Convention and Tourist Bureau, where he served as President for 31 years. He retired in 1987.Conwell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha, two sons, Michael who resides in Houston, Dean in Beaumont and Kelly in Houston.
