Sandra Valls Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Herman Valls

Corpus Christi, TX

Sandra "Sandy" Herman Valls entered into Eternal Life in the early morning hours of December 31, 2016, at her home in Port Aransas. She was born Sandra Roselyn on August 21, 1941 to Dorothy Sue and Francis L. Herman, Jr. in Owensboro, KY. She was raised in Ingleside and Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from W. B. Ray High School. She briefly attended Del Mar College where she met her future husband Richard Ralph Valls. After having a serendipitously similar course schedule, Sandy and Richard quickly fell in love and married on June 17, 1961 after a brief engagement. They resided in Laredo, Texas until 1974 after which time they moved to and resided in Corpus Christi and Port Aransas, Texas until her recent transition. After raising her four children, Sandy returned to school and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Corpus Christi State University.

Sandy was a faithful wife, nurturing mother, wonderful Gigi and trusted friend. A natural beauty, she exuded a grace and serenity that was felt by all who knew her. She possessed an adventurous spirit, loved to travel, had an eagerness for learning and appreciation for her experiences in life. An avid reader, lover of art, good listener who offered thoughtful counsel, Sandy was intelligent, determined and maintained a genuine concern for the welfare of others. She was a devout Catholic and maintained a strong faith. Sandy was active in numerous civic and charitable organizations in both Laredo and Corpus Christi while also playing an instrumental role in the success of the family businesses.

Sandra is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Sue and father, Francis, in-laws, Ralph and Clotilde Valls, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sandra is survived by her brother, Richard Herman, husband, Richard, daughters, Linda Marie Valls and Cerise Valls Weeks (Jason), sons, Richard R. Valls, Jr. (Brenda) and Laurence A. W. Valls (Tiffany), grandchildren, Austin Alexander Armengol and Avery Elizabeth Valls; Morgan Victoria, Richard Benjamin Cade and Winston Oliver Clarke Weeks; Roselyn Elise, Riley Alexander Clarke and Reese Clotilde Maree Valls; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The success story of her life was her family; it is the proud legacy she leaves behind.

Sandy and her family are thankful to MD Anderson, Dr. Ajay Sehgal, Monsignor Michael Howell, her caregivers and many relatives and friends who comforted and supported her in her time of need. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider supporting St. Andrews by the Sea Catholic Church or a cause of importance to you.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, January 6, 2017, at St. Andrews by the Sea Catholic Church with a Celebration of Life to follow at 5:30 p.m., on The Barge at Lawrence Street T-head, Pier B.
