Shinya Ochiai Obituary

Shinya OchiaiCorpus Christi, TXShinya Ochiai, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and tennis enthusiast, passed away on April 4, at the age of 78. He was born on June 6, 1935 in Kofu-City, Japan. After graduating from Waseda University in Tokyo, he came to the United States to study mechanical engineering at Rice University (MSME) and Purdue University (PhD). He had a 36 year distinguished career at Celanese Corporation, during which he was awarded multiple patents and awards, including being named as a Fellow of the International Society of Automation. He also taught at Texas A&I, and after retirement, at Texas A&M. Shinya spent every free moment on the tennis court. Always a gentleman both off and on the court, he was candid, genuine and unassuming, and had a hearty laugh. These memories are fondly held by Hisako, his wife of 48 years, daughter Mari (Thomas) Holcomb, grandchildren Aya and Kenji, cousin Takeshi (Yoshiko) Amemiya and family, sister Yukiko (Minoru) Tominaga, brother Takao (Atsuko) Ochiai, and numerous cousins in Japan. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Cure Alzheimer's Fund are appreciated. (http://www.curealzfund.org, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481). We are grateful for our friends and professionals for their care and support during these past nine years.A memorial service and reception will be held on Thursday, April 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, 100 N.
