Kelsey passed away on October 11, 2021 in Denver. She was born to Karen and Paul Trentzsch in Canon City, Colorado on August 8, 1986. She graduated from Canon City High School in 2005 with honors and from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude in English. After college Kelsey taught English in Denver for a short while before being accepted into the JET (Japanese Exchange and Teaching) Program, She then moved to Japan for two years to teach English (especially speaking and listening skills) and it proved to be one of the happiest times of her life. Once their JET commitments were complete, Kelsey and two friends took a six week trip of a lifetime on the Trans-Siberian Railway across Russia. After the TSR the young ladies continued their journey throughout Europe and ended up in London, before returning home. Kelsey travelled to many other countries all around the world, more than most people see in a lifetime, and really enjoyed learning about the different cultures. When Kelsey returned to the US in 2012 she settled in New Orleans, LA and taught 6th - 8th grade English, writing, grammar and social studies for six years. She was a highly motivated and dedicated teacher who loved her students - and they loved her back. In 2018 she returned to Colorado and lived in the Denver area for the last three years of her life, working in the Environmental field. Kelsey excelled in this profession as well due to her talent for connecting with others and her attention to detail. Kelsey made friends easily and those friendships lasted throughout her life. She was an intelligent, beautiful, fun-loving, outgoing person who was an avid reader. Her laugh was contagious, outrageous and often included a "snort" or two when there wasn't time to breathe. Kelsey also enjoyed poking fun at her Mom's Minnesota slang by giving her the correct pronunciation of words. We will remember Kelsey's courage and determination in her struggle with depression and anxiety, and even though she took her own life we know she is now at peace. Kelsey is survived by her parents, brother Ryan (Adria) and nephews Carson and Decker and niece Delaney; brother Aaron (Angela) and niece Kaia, uncle John and aunt Vickie Trentzsch, cousin Jesse (Cyndy) Trentzsch and family, cousin Tyler Trentzsch, cousin Lisa (Adam) Caimi and family, cousin Katy (Danny) Shuss and family, cousin Kody (Kim) McCullough and family, many friends and her beloved puppy Onigiri. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and two aunts and two uncles. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or Colorado Crisis Services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Kelsey will always live in the hearts of those who knew, and loved her. Online Condolences may be made through Harwood Cremation and Funeral Services of Canon City. www.harwoodfunerals.com.

Kelsey was one of my closest friends in high school and I took her to Prom. We had all sorts of adventures and mischief in those days. She cried her eyes out when I had my going away party for the military, just absolutely inconsolable the entire time. As the years went, we stayed in touch initially, then it became less and less as time went on, as I guess people on diverging paths often do in adult life. I never had a poor quality conversation with Kelsey, and although she didn't agree with me on some things, she was always kind and open minded about what I had to say. She was always attentive, supportive, and positive. My heart is broken and the world is dimmer without knowing she's not in a country far away somewhere having a good time. RIP Pippi

My deepest sympathies goes to the Mom of Kelsey. I completely know how you feel, because back in 1993 my son Michael took his life after years of bipolar depression. My heart still hurts. I would like to share with you some of my poems I wrote from a mother's heart. If you would like to view these poems please email me at: [email protected]

Paul, Karen and family. I send love and support to you all during your time of sorrows. Although I wasn't there to see Kelsey growing up, I did hear wonderful things about her life. She grew into a beautiful and accomplished woman. Remember that she is now resting in the hand of God and you will all be together again in heaven.

I met Kelsey a handful of years ago through our dear mutual friend, Jaclyn Gavzy. She was so much fun to be around and I can just hear her laugh, as described above. I am honored to have known her; she truly was a special person in so many ways. May her memory always be a blessing.

Karen and family, my heart goes out to you and your family in the loss of your beautiful daughter Kelsey. I always felt she was so talented and intelligent, reading her obituary only affirmed my thoughts. It was also comforting to me to read in her obituary of all the life experiences she enjoyed---her young life was filled to the brim, may she rest in peace.

Though I was not personally friends with Kelsey in high school, I knew who she was and all of my memories and feelings about her are positive. She was a bright light everywhere she went. I usually don't reach out if I didn't have a personal relationship with the individual, but Karen had such an impact on my life as a student, and I know her daughter was just like her in that for others, I could not help but send my condolences. I'm so glad Kelsey lived such a full life. All my love. - Tambra (Ragan) Shultz CCHS '06
